“Best Restaurant in Little Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2012

REAL Italian food! Yes, REAL Italian food! We had amazing food - soup, eggplant, lobster ravioli, artichoke, zucchini and of course the bread! The staff was excellent and very courteous. They met our needs without being overbearing. We will definitely be back! The guy outside that brought us in with his "charm" and closing skills was absolutely right about it being the best restaurant in Little Italy!

“Good food, average service, dubious care for guests”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

I see poor reviews for bad service here, and we didn't experience that. I'd say this place actually had four-star food and three- or four-star service. All of our party complimented their meals (and we had a range of things from pasta to chicken). The reason for my three-star review is the bait and switch they tried to pull with us.

We were walking down the street at lunch time and getting barked at by all the Little Italy restaurant hawkers, and we stopped at Giovanna's to listen to their sales pitch. The guy out front was holding a lunch menu with everything listed between $11.75 and $13.50 (if memory serves.) So we walked in, were seated, and they handed us dinner menus with everything being 50% to 100% more expensive. Had we not specifically asked for the lunch menu, they would've charged us much more for the same food.

As noted, service was fine and the food was good. Lunch portions were sizable.

I wish they had more than a single bathroom. The line often was so long that people were standing next to our table while waiting for the lone (and not terribly clean) restroom. Perhaps trying to keep the high-traffic restroom clean is tough--at one point an employee swooped in with Lysol and the lemony disinfectant order was overpowering for several minutes.

I think Giovanna's is a fine choice on Mulberry, but don't be lured into paying higher prices than you need to at lunch. I might have given this place four stars, but I think it's disrespectful of customers to try to pull that sort of bait and switch.

“Great Italian with two young kids.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012 via mobile

We stopped here because it looked busy and they offered half portions for kids. The food was great and the kids loved it. Would be back for sure.

“Fabulous!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

OK, so be prepared to be somewhat harrassed by all the restaurants while walking down the main street in Little Italy during lunch time. If you can get past that....you will love this place. The seating outside on the street was so romantic and attractive. It was fun to people watch. My husband and I shared a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio. The chicken Francese was great. it was a big portion for the lunch menu. The lunch menu is a real deal for NYC. I think it was $13.95. I would recommend this restaurant.

“Very charming and great food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

We weren't even planning on eating at this place but the "host" outside did a great job of convincing us that we just had to eat there. We sat at a little table right on the sidewalk and loved being able to soak up all the atmosphere of Little Italy. I ordered the Chicken Parmigiana and my husband had the Lasagna. The food was wonderful! The sauce on both dishes was very good and the bread was delicious! The service was a little slow and we had to ask for refills and our check. It did seem like we waited for a while on the food but we it was worth it!
