Having always been partial to hotels on the West Side of the city, whether for the convenience of their location to work or the theater district, I'm now a convert to the East Side as a result of a very pleasant stay at the Omni Berkshire. The hotel is refurbished but maintains a very gentrified, old world elegance, without the rush and crowding of some of NY's more popular hotels. The rooms are spacious and well appointed and meticulously clean. Services are provided by an attentive staff from the doormen to the front desk and concierge. Fireside is the attached restaurant, and although we didn't eat more than the occasional breakfast or snack, we spent a lot of time in their cozy adjacent bar where the drinks were poured well. The location is perfect relative to fine and casual dining along and east of Madison Ave and shopping up and down 5th Ave. The fitness center in the hotel is adequate but there are expansion plans underway to enlarge the facilities and improve the equipment.
