A move mid stay from The Peninsula to the Four Seasons transformed a stay this month in Manhattan. We were lucky to secure a room on the 50th floor, with floor to ceiling windows facing west and a stunning view north towards Central Park.
I agree with other correspondents that the hotel needs a makeover: the rooms and lift lobbies are very tired, and the bedroom furniture is very old hat. But the views and the exemplary service make up for that. The room was cleaned and attended to punctually every day, and like many hotels, it just worked. I've been in better and more modern rooms (and so will you have, undoubtedly), but there's more to a hotel than up to the minute furniture. If you want glorious views and service, pick this hotel. If you want state of the art iPod docks and modern fittings, look elsewhere for better choices. But they won't have the view and the service!
