“Hated the W - Lexington Avenue”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 6, 2006

We stayed at the W because the Mercer was fully booked and you get what you pay for. For 450 dollars per night one could reasonable expect a fantastic room and great service. The hotel room was tiny, shabby and damp. The staff were dismissive and basically ignored our requests (3 times) for someone to take a look at the issues we had with the room. The bathroom was tiny, there was mould growing in the carpet, there was a cigarette burn in one of the blinds... I could go on. If you want a room of this standard (but 3 times the size) pay a quarter of the price and stay in 2 star accomodation close by (I have in the past!!) All in all the W Lexington put a huge dampner on what should have been a fabulous weekend in New York.

I concur with most of the negative reviews. Very expensive, yet very shabby. Bathroom is tiny, dirty and smelled of mildew. Desk had sticky stuff on it. Linens were worn. Slip cover on chair worn and dirty. Light in entranceway burned out. Decidedly downscale.

We stayed at the W in Lexington Avenue because it was booked for a party of us as part of a 3 night stay. We arrived at approx 6:45pm in the evening and our cases were delivered to the 2nd floor where we were checked in very effieciently. I had read reviews on this site and I must admit although there were some positive reviews there seemed to be a lot of very negative ones. Even though our trip was paid for by somebody else, we arrived hoping that the negative reviews were wrong.........

We needn't have worried. Our room was on the 10th floor overlooking Lexington Avenue (a liitle noisy - but it's New York - the city that never sleeps!!!), the air conditioning worked and as expected, the bed and bliss bathroom products were great. When we asked room service for a UK travel adaptor - it was bought to our room as promised within the 15 minutes.

Breakfast every moring was fine and all the staff we encountered are friendly and helpful. I have never written a hotel review before but having seen so many negative ones for this hotel I felt that the Hotel and staff deserve some praise. I think these days customers are too quick to complain and moan and not so quick to give praise when it is due. I for one would definitely return and recommend it to others.

  • Liked — It was a busy hotel with an lively atmosphere. Also the bed was mega comfortable
  • Disliked — Nothing

my fiance and i stayed at the W NYC over the thanksgiving weekend. w hotels are trying so hard to build a chic culture for travelers. they should work on making rooms habitable. our room was small, had no ventilation and the bathroom was full of mold, not what you expect for $300 a night.

the concierge was helpful in getting us in to nightclubs and restaurants. check in was a nightmare, they had a staff of 3 on one of the busiest holidays of the year. we arrived at 4 and were informed our room was not ready.

if you want to be in the middle of the shopping area and tourist spots this is a great location.

Stayed one night and had a very decent stay. The rooms are typically small in New York, so we were quite happy with the accomidations. The bars were trendy and location was great. Nothing in New York is cheap, so this wasn't the most amazing deal, but for a trendy spot, clean room that is across the Waldorf, it's a great stay. It's original W location, so it needs a few updates, but on the whole, it's a great little hotel to crash in. We would stay here again.

I totally agree with the negative comments about this hotel and the chain in total. W is just a BAD chain. They can talk the talk but haven't a clue about how to walk the walk.
Wahtever Whenever means Whatever W wants and Whenever W wants to do it
This property is the worst in the chain
Too bad .. so much potential so little delivery
If you want a decent hotel experience pick just about any brand except W.
If you want horror stories and just pure entertainment about bad W experiences email me.

We booked this hotel since the Ws look cool! But after getting there and looking at the room we asked for our money back and left within minutes. Tiny room, dark, bad customer service. The room looked clean but we didn't stay enough to really pay attention.
For the money they ask, it is better to go somewhere else!
