“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2012

If you are looking for an exceptional hotel with a bit of history try the Warwick located in Midtown Manhattan, close to Central Park, MOMA, The 21 Club and too many attractions to mention here. It was built by William Randolph Hearst for his Hollywood friends to stay. There is even a Cary Grant Suite, never stayed in it but would love to see what it looks like. The staff are top notch and very professional. very clean room and amenities. There are two restaurants Murals on 54 and Randolph's. The latter is a bar and is usually crowded, always a good sign. Have stayed here many times and would recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Ask for an outside view room, the views are fabulous especially at night.

We had a horrible stay. The hotel was full of filth.

Service was non existent. The staff seemed to be interested only in the "more important" guests.

The hotel was full of shady looking characters. Your money would be better spent elsewhere.

We spent a week in NY at the Warwick Hotel. The location is great. Central Park is just two blocks north, the Theater District only 3 blocks and subway within a block. A very high end hotel with reasonable prices. The lounge was comfortable and the drinks, while expensive, were excellent. Most everyone, except the concierge was helpful and friendly. I found it odd that the concierge was not willing to help in locating an outdoor antique market. He did not seem to understand what I wanted and did not seem to care to help me.
We had a two room studio with a great view west on 54th St. Bed was comfortable and we never heard a sound at any time during the day or night. The room was very clean; however the staff never put the throw pillows or bed dressing back on the bed in the morning.
The only real problem was the air conditioning. It did not cool the room well enough and we were there during a very humid week. The staff responded quickly to our concern and a minor improved occurred.
I would stay there again.

Warwick was built in 1926, commissioned by William Randolph Hearst for his love. European style and vintage charm. While situates in the middle of Manhattan yet quiet, or may be because our room was in the center of the building, where the window open to looking at 4 walls of other windows, day light never reaches our room which sits on the 22ne floor.

I would say, location is great, around the corner from The MoMA, walking distance to metro, Central park, just a few blocks from Time Square and all the theatres and night life.

Room itself needs some attention, small but comfortable, no coffee maker, has to request it; air conditioner was set on 75 degree, when we called housekeeping, she said just open the window, thankfully the weather was in the mid 70's and was comfortable.
Bathroom has no counter space, so for the ladies who has our makeups and stuff, it is a challenge.

All and all, worth staying if you don't expect much, since it is quite convenient.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a room with a view, and higher up.

I stayed at this hotel for a night during fashion week. My friends picked it out... they like shopping way more than I do and the restaurant we were booked at was just around the corner.

When I first stepped out of the muggy heat into the lobby, it was a pleasure to discover where they'd booked. The place is stunning. My friends had a suite which was huge with gorgeous furniture and a well-stocked mini bar (very important). The view wasn't much - kind of overlooked a lot of cement, but this is New York, so that's to be expected.

My own room was upstairs a couple of floors and it, too, was lovely. The bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The bathroom was all marble, which was gorgeous, though the shower was the most complex piece of bathroom engineering I've ever come across. Seriously, after two showers I left the place still baffled. Also, the water didn't seem to drain very well when I was showering... to the point where I just ended up sitting down and having a bath instead.

The bar downstairs was nice (though really, lads, you should really have a bottle of Moet on ice if you're going to have it on the menu... we waited with no word from anyone for about 20 minutes before it arrived... warm... *tsktsk*) and with a nice selection of drinks. The blackberry champagne concoction was particularly yummy.

I didn't have much interaction with the front desk staff, though they seemed friendly enough. One thing that annoyed me was the fact they charged for wireless internet (in fairness, this is a pet peeve of mine... it really irritates me when hotels have the gall to charge for internet.)

All in all, a sweet location for shopping and the neighbourhood.

We stayed at the Warwick about ten years ago when we published a book. The publisher made the reservation and we had very fond memories of this hotel. Well, now we have just published another book, with a different New York publishing house and they, too, put us into the Warwick. A pattern seems to be emerging.
Initially we were taken to a suite, large, comfortable and dark. When I pulled back the drapes we were deep into an air shaft. I told the bellman that I couldn't stay in such a dark place (claustrophobia) and that even a small room would be preferable, as long as it had light. He made a quick phone call to the front desk and took us up to the 28th floor and opened the door to The Warwick Suite. Light streamed into the suite from 3 sides. We had a fabulous view, even better at night, down 6th Ave. Large living room, bar and refrigerator, dining table, huge bedroom looking at 6th Ave. going the other way.
We had a great stay, a nice comfortable living room to come back to after hours of interviews. Breakfast in the room each day was prompt, eggs and coffee hot just like they should be.
I never understand people who can't get over a slow elevator or the other small irritations of hotel living. It is the whole experience that makes up your stay and our experience at The Warwick was stellar. Just hope we don't have to write another book to return.

Overall stay was good.. This is the type of hotel you'd stay in for a touristic trip to ny. Great location and good experience and very good value for money. Staff are professional and helpful, food and room is totally fine.
