I've been coming to Rockefeller Park almost since it was completed in the 1990s. At that time, I had just discovered the joy of inline skating, and it was a revelation that Rockefeller Park was part of the newly-constructed Hudson River waterway, on which you could skate/walk/bike from the Upper West Side all the way down to the Battery, and then around to the East side.
There is also a cruise, one that uses sail boats, that originates from just north of Rockefeller Park, that goes out into the lower part of the Hudson and over to the Statue of Liberty, which is very nice.
As the weather is warming up, and I am getting back my in-line skating chops, I look forward to getting down to Rockefeller Park on a regular basis, passing the local families who make it their home, crossing the wooden bridge and resting beneath the trees.
