Description: Originally opened in 2008 as both a Peruvian and Cantonese restaurant, owner and culinary director Darren Wan decided to reconceptualize the already successful restaurant in 2010 into the chic, upscale and exclusively Cantonese format that it is today. Melding traditional Chinese cuisine with a hip and contemporary venue, RED EGG caters to those looking for excellence in their cuisine as well as in the ambiance they want to enjoy it in. In addition to the Cantonese and Szechuan specialties menu, RED EGG features classic Cantonese dim sum throughout the day. Recently awarded the Bib Gourmand rating in the MICHELIN Guide New York City 2011. Don't forget to try the Peking Duck Sliders, Pan Fried Dumplings and Red Egg Filet Mignon to name a few.

“Great restaurant”

Very very good food and low price.
The atmosphere was great. The service friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed it. I would come again, which for me is the real test.

“Dim Sum breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

If you are tired of the multitude of bagel variations that New York has to offer try something new and fun, the Red Egg in Chinatown offers up an upscale ambiance and some of the best DIm SUm I have ever eaten including Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Mianland at a great price. No cart but a check off list with 100's of items to select from - don't know what to choose just pick an item from each box but don't miss the steamed buns - to die for. enjoy the food and the break form the hustle and bustle of the city, Many say you should have reservations but they find room for anyone who walks in.

“Good Food. Lousy Looks”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2013

At first look the restaurant looks kind of cool. After the entry/bar it becomes almost like a cheap diner. No ambiance. Brightly lit. Some tables have cloths...others do not. Just an all over "ugh". Menus were dirty. Service was lousy. Waiter couldn't understand us and we couldn't understand him.
That said the food was very good......extremely expensive though so watch out!

“Great Dim Sum...higher end variety”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013 via mobile

Love good dim sum...not often the space is as nice as the food. This place does better than most.
This restaurant offers "made to order" version...not the roving cart of dim sum. Takes about 15 min to get the collection of treats after you order. We found it easy to enjoy the whole experience.
Highly recommend you order "everything" up front so you can enjoy the meal together. Maybe order one "extra" just to be sure!
Service was kindest and most responsive we have seen in many visits to Chinatown dining.
