“Beautiful selection of incredible items.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

I wish this museum were Bigger! This place is truly beautiful. I loved slowly going through and reading everything. I cant wait to come back when they have more exhibits opening in the future. The gift shop is awesome! It provides you with a fine selection of items form low cost to high... from music to jewelry to Tshirts and Books, this place really supports the history and knowledge of the Native Americans. Most of the items for sale are truly authentic and support native americans who have crafted them. Please go support! These beautiful cultures deserve more attention, adoration and support!

“Empty halls”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

I was really pleased with myself when I found that I could visit on my brief trip to NYC. Part of the Smithsonian, I thought it would be more extensive. It isn't, it's a single that covers all native american history and culture - what! Disappointing but maybe you get what you pay for: it was free.

“Ancient & Contemporary”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

Don’t turn down an opportunity to visit the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, located inside the US Custom House. Admission is free. The museum is small, with captivating displays of artifacts and artwork, ancient and contemporary.

Be prepared for airport-style security when entering the building. Bags are put in an x ray machine. Visitors must go through a metal detector.

“Always I liked American Indian art!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2013

I know when I wanted to see that worth it my choice! Always I was fascinated by the culture and art of American Indians. This museum is not big but full of beautiful collections about their culture and their way to live. First Nations like they are called by Canadian people have a great and important culture and I loved to stay and watch for minutes video screenings with the diversity of their past, present and future. So I say if you are in travel around New York go and visit that museum! You will not regret!

Free museum in a beautiful building with some very surprising artwork by modern Indian artists. Loud staff. Right next to Battery Park.
