“An hour or two well spent”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

Happened on this by chance and loved it. The music section was terrific and then I spent a lot of time looking at the display of items and clothing from so may different tribes of America. The quotes were very moving. The collection is not huge, but is quite enough for a tourist . Free is good, too!

“Superb, but small collection in a stunning building!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

This museum was a real surprise. The building is spectacular, inside and out. But inside (after clearing the metal detectors) is a small, but beautiful collection of artifacts from Native Americans, superbly curated.

A special exhibit on American Indian musicians was excellent, complete with a club-like viewing room for videos of these artists in a simulated concert environment. Very impressive, especially for teens who don't dig old artifacts.

On the third floor is a branch of the National Archives, also worth a visit.

The staff everywhere was very friendly and helpful. A small gift shop is near the main entrance.

“Beautiful Building”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

This museum is housed in the historic Hamilton Customs House just behind the Wall Street Bull at Bowling Green. The architecture is beautiful with the high, arched ceilings and artwork. Admission is free, so it is a nice place to go spend an hour or so.

There are several exhibits showing Native American artifacts from the many different tribes in North America. The signs and interactive exhibits provide a good amount of information. I know that most of this museum has been put together with the help of one collector, but I would have liked to see more to represent the history and culture of the Native Americans. I think there is so much that is not represented.

Once you get through the historical exhibit, you move into a hall that is really pretty neat. It depicts Native Americans in popular music and culture. There is information painted onto the walls, and there are listening stations set up in the center of the room with comfy couches and headphones. You continue walking and there is a stage-type set up where they have Native American live music performances and interviews projected onto a big screen. Very cool!

I was straying in that area of financial district and went on towards the Bowling Green .Spotted this massive building and so imposinga nd beautiful
Dared enter and after teh security check and the initial pamphlets searching, walked in expecting to see how the American Indians were living or how they fought for themselves from the early settlers
But did get to see many costumes.utensils etc etc .The most amazing one was teh building So beautifully maintained and the center oval and teh ceiling and the paintings around ,one can keep looking ,admiring for hours at length
