“Lived in NY for years and this was my first visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

Everyone can gain knowledge by visiting this museum.
Amazing suffering and tough living conditions for those who immigrated
to NY in the 19th and early 20th century.
A must see if you are in New York or plan a visit

“A great nontraditional museum experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

The Lower East-Side Tenement Museum has preserved an original tenement building in the same state it was left when it closed down in the 1930s. This is not a museum where you wander around exhibits on your own, but rather are taken by a tour guide through the original Tenement building and nearby city streets to get a glimpse of what life was like for immigrant families living in New York's lower East Side in the late 19th and early 20th century. Great for kids, especially if they are 9-10 or older. Educational, fun, and a different experience from most museum going. Admission is a bit expensive, but I highly recommend it.

“Not to be missed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Went on the hard times tour. The group was small, the guide very informative and passionate about the history of the tenements and the many many families that lived there over several decades. Well researched and great supportive documents and oral histories. A rich and rewarding experience. Great gift shop a bonus. Do not miss this living museum.
