“nice meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

Found Swizz while I was having a cheese craving on a visit to NYC. It was a great find. We were late for our reservation due to major traffic but the hostess/owner? was great didn't say anything and sat us. (they were not crowded at all) I was there with my mother and we decided to split a ceasar salad, they offer a large salad for this option which I appreciated. and then we went for the classic cheese fondue. I love fondue and enjoy how it comes to the table over the flame. We added the air dried beef and mushrooms for $3 a piece, and of course there was plenty of bread. The order was a generous portion of cheese for 2 people. Nice atmosphere, although there seemed to be only 1 server for the entire upstairs including a large party. But since we weren't in a rush and were looking for a casual meal it was fine. I love the brick walls and and old world feel that the building has.
We skipped dessert and walked back to our hotel through Times square which wasn't a far walk and helped to work off some of the cheese.

“Good Spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2013

Great authentic Fondue and good Swiss food generally. Fairly spartan interior with Swiss wait staff, felt very authentic (only the Aromat or Maggi was missing). Good value for money and and prompt friendly service. Be aware that many dishes are for healthy alpine appetities. Might make sense to share some dishes, particularly the raclette which is awesome especially with a glass of excellent Kirsch. A real find when you fancy something different without breaking the bank. Thoroughly recommended especially in the cold weather.

“Good choice for pre theatre meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Amazingly this restaurant was almost empty at 7.00pm on a Friday night, perhaps because it's not on 8th Avenue itself but down a quiet side street. We chose a Swiss restaurant to try their raclette, which is a perfect meal for a cold Manhattan evening. The raclette was excellent, and the $15 appetizer size was ample for me - a dessert plate thickly covered in melted cheese served with potatoes and pickles. I was a bit disappointed not to have a grill on the table to melt the cheese, as I'd had in Switzerland, (makes it more of a 'fondue' experience as you cook your own) but pre-grilled worked OK. My husband also had veal with a mushroom sauce, with great rosti. Service was quick and attentive, but we did have their undivided attention! A decent selection of wines by the glass. The restaurant is quite small, but tables are well spaced. I would recommend for a meal before or after a show.

“Fondue was terrific”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We had a table of 8 people and most of us ordered cheese fondue - and a few had the beef fondue. All of it was very good. Salads (side and entree portions) were also very good. They have a good assortment of wines by the glass and a limited, but fairly priced, selection by the bottle. We would go back. Atmosphere is just 'ok'.

“Nice for the family”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

As this is a Swiss restaurant it was mandatory to order the fondue. We began with the cheese fondue as an appetizer. It reminded me of my meals in Geneva. The Wiener schnitzel was a fine entrée. The beef fondue was accompanied by a generous portion of beef, veal, shrimp and vegetables. The fondue itself was not exceptionally flavorful, but with that said, nor was it salty as beef broth often is. The bitter sweet chocolate fondue was nicely balanced by the fresh fruit and marshmallows. The service was adequate, though we did have to ask for more water and pour our own wine. The one thing that was slightly upsetting was the soda. The children each ordered a soda at $3.50 a glass, which itself is understandable, what was upsetting was that when the children had a second glass, we were again charged another $7.00. This is a bit much for a refill, especially when we know the food costs for a glass of soda.
