“Best Belgian Waffles”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

We went to Cafe Angelique for a late breakfast. Among our group we had Belgian Waffles with bananas, strawberries, maple syrup and whipped cream, Almond Croissant and Chocolate Croissant, cafe lattes and hot cocoa. The staff was great and the restaurant had character. The tip was already included in our check so be sure to double check your bill.

“Use a "CLOSED" sign if you don't want customers”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2011

Just returned from an otherwise great visit to the West Village. Dinner at John's Pizzeria, then nice stroll down Bleecker Street. Stopped by Angelique's expecting nice cup of coffee with a cupcake. On a corner, place looks like a quaint European cafe. Goods stacked up nicely behind glass counter. Upon entry, we were advised that the place was about to close. As the counter person started to say something else, some other woman rudely interrupted "actually we're closing now'...(might as well said 'get out') . If the owner is reading this review, know your evening staff is very eager to close and loses all sense of hospitality at night's end.

Just use a "CLOSED" sign. Hopped back on subway back to Times Square and picked up a nice Napaleon at italian bakery. Wiped away the bad taste of Angelique. Hope others are treated better.

“Don't eat here!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2010

We had a light lunch at Cafe Angelique on a busy weekend afternoon recently, and it was truly one of the worst restaurant meals we've ever had--and certainly the worst meal we've ever had in NYC. Limp, aged, grilled chicken salad with greasy grilled chicken (and it's hard to make grilled chicken greasy unless you're pretty incompetent), and a roast beef sandwich that, despite our waitress' energetic recommendation, came with damp, greasy and apparently pre-packaged meat, carmelized onions that wouldn't have been out of place at White Castle, and no trace of the horseradish that was allegedly part of the sandwich. When we questioned the quality, our waitress cheerfully admitted that the food had been prepared hours earlier (so don't come here for freshness), but did not offer an alternative from the menu. Excellent coffee, I will admit, though the no-refills policy makes it pricey, and the pastries looked good--but that's not what we were there for. Very much a W. Village atmosphere: hip, busy, small, cramped.
