This is an older hotel and in bad shape. As other reviewers have stated the oil pipeline business has forces prices up an the owner is making big money without putting money back in the property.

The service level is poor because they are under staffed. The office clerk also had to supply the breakfast area and she could not keep-up. The hotel was packed. People were in line to check out and she had to make coffee and resupply the breakfast offerings.

They did have good wi-fi. The breakfast was good. Waffles, bagels toast muffins coffee juice. The room was quiet. The room had an analog tv with 60+ cable channeks.

We were initially weirded out by the fact that our room smelled REALLY bad. Like maybe somebody had bug-bombed the room and tried to cover up with an air freshener? Maybe not, it was just a REALLY intensely gross smell. Then we asked if our roof rack storage unit on the car would be ok in the parking lot. NOT SO! Our storage rack was stolen early in the morning along with fittings for the gas tankers parked in the adjacent lot. If the night clerk was any judge we should have been fine. Never again.

There is a housing shortage in Carlsbad New Mexico because of oil drilling. This hotel and others that we looked at are taking advantage of the situation with sloppy cleaning, deferred maintenance and very high prices.
The single redeeming quality of this hotel was a very nice clerk.
Being greedy now will cost in the end.

This property is located in an oil boom area of the state, and the proprieters are taking advantage of it. Property is average, but not worth what they are charging. Rooms were clean, beds were average, no one to help or answer questions at the breakfast area. I would check outother properties in the area.
