“What a disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2012

We stayed at this Super 8 for one night on our trip home from Texas. As a Wyndham Rewards member, I try to use the hotels in the Wyndham brand. Once I called Super 8 directly, as you cannot make Super 8 nor Days Inn reservations directly through Wyndham Rewards, I received the confirmation information for our one night stay. Our room was on the lowest level of the building, right next to the stairs leading to the lobby. From the moment I walked into the room it was evident that this motel has not had any TLC in a very long time. The furniture is at least 20 years old and the room is in desperate need of painting, and cleaning for that matter. The bathroom was unacceptable. The shower stall is coming apart at the seams and there was a substandard caulking job done to hold it together. While using the bathtub, I looked down at the toliet and there was a yellow stain (looked like urine) at the base of the toliet. The walls have stains which look like something "splattered" and behind the door is a very large stain. As mentioned in a previous review, the ceiling has large stains. The corners of the room have the substandard caulking job which has not been painted. The floor needed to be vacuumed as there was visible debris between the nightstand and the bed. The owner here really needs to look into making an investment into this property. For all you summer travelers heading to Carlsbad, skip this place and spend the money somewhere else.

Came here after the Days Inn across the street wanted $79.00 in mid-April for a single room. I'd had it with Motel 6 style rooms (which the Days Inn isn't) on this road trip around New Mexico and Western Texas so spending a little more was rewarded here. Room was $60.00 this time of year. Room had a comfortable bed, small dorm-style fridge that kept the beer cold, microwave, typical hotel coffeemaker with real cups, ironing board and iron, new marble-look sink in the bathroom. Flat screen TV with about 70 channels. HBO looked fuzzy, All others channels looked clear with the networks in HD quality. Furniture should be replaced as it looks left over from past years' incarnations. I had room 222 and I can't vouch that all rooms are this good. Continental breakfast was fine. Coffee, tea, danish, bagels, juices and self serve waffles.
Pool wasn't open, though with the 80F degree temps would have been nice. Overall a good choice at the edge of town before setting off for the Caverns.

Staff was friendly and room was clean. Breakfast was decent. There are no budget priced hotels in Carlsbad, only budget quality.

Room Tip: From the back of the motel you must use stairs to go down to the first floor or up to the second flo...

Like the other reviewer, I was reluctant based on reviews but just needed a place to crash for 1 night. The room was clean, the front staff was pleasant. No complaints.

Room Tip: Stay on the east side to avoid adjacent construction and dust.

I was very reluctant to book online. But was literally the only option I had as no other vacancies were found. Exhausted from traveling w 3 children we booked to stay. Expecting the worst I walked in. It did not smell bad. Appeared pretty clean and the lady was nice. The bed was hard and no room for the pack and play. It was older cheaper hotel with older decor but sanitary. We stayed on the 3rd floor. Didn't eat breakfast there so can't attest to that one but overall not that bad. Most "cheap" hotels don't have shampoos and toothpaste and local brochures. This one did. However it was a little overpriced but spring break and no other vacancies in town - to be expected.

Horrible experience!! Mice were seen in the room we were staying in on the 3rd floor and no apology by rude owner was given. Instead, he wanted to argue with me for checking out a day early claiming that I had two nights booked so I must pay for the 2nd night which I never stayed since the mice were seen on the first night in my room! I would NOT recommend to anyone!

Room Tip: I do not recommend Super 8 motel in Carlsbad, New Mexico!

Although the office staff were polite and the price was competitive, this was a big disappointment. Our room and bathroom had not been thoroughly cleaned, light fixtures were broken, there was water on the floor in the bathroom, the waffle maker in the breakfast room was dirty with accumulated grease, the breakfast room itself had not been thoroughly cleaned, and there was a strange odor in the reception area. Unless you stay only for the price, we recommend considering other locations.
