“We Love Island Farm!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

My parents live on the OBX and we often visit them. We have been to The Island Farm twice, and both times it has been fantastic. I am something of a connoisseur of historic sites, and this one is top notch. The curator is very knowledgeable, as are the other docents. The docents are all in period clothing and man several sites, such at the kitchen/laundry, blacksmith area, garden, main house, and wagon rides pulled by an ox. There is so much to do and learn there, for little kids and adults alike. Also, there are different things going on on different days, activities reflect life on the farm so they vary from visit to visit. I truly enjoy visiting this gem!

“Very interesting look at life on a working Pre-Civil War farm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2011

A very interesting look—via reconstructed buildings and live reenactments/demonstrations/lectures—at what life was like generally and, in particular, what life was like for a relatively prosperous farmer before the Civil War. From beginning to end staff members were very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and friendly. We spent close to two hours here, listening to the re-enactors and looking around. We came without children, but I can imagine that a family with children who might like this stuff would have a very good time here.

“great family visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2011

I visited Island Farm together with my four daughters (6 years down to 9 months) and my wife and mother-in-law. We've visited a lot of living history museums, and this was probably the best. It was very interactive, with a lot of things to touch and do. The interpreters were great, especially the lady in the kitchen, who helped the girls cook corn cakes over the fire. The price was very reasonable and the attention to historical detail based on original sources was much appreciated. A great place, a highlight for us on our Outer Banks vacation.

“Charlie the Ox is awesome - take a ride with Charlie!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

Beautiful place!! Lots to see,. touch and do. Make sure you take the ox cart ride with Charlie the Ox. I don't know of any other place that a family can do that. Island Farm is a nice break from all the commerical attractions at the beach - something our kids will remember and go back and visit again next time we come to the Outer Banks.

“Wonderful experience for the whole family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2011

Our whole family enjoyed our visit to the Island Farm. The kids (ages 1 and 3) enjoyed all the animals, especially feeding the chickens and horse. The staff has done a great job of making you feel like you have stepped back in time. Everyone was very friendly and talked to us a lot. We enjoyed sweet potato cakes freshly made in the cook house, too. We had so much fun, we plan to spend a whole day there this summer when we return to the Outer Banks!
