Very well located in Manteo for relatives attending a wedding. Rooms were very clean and well decorated. Large living room with kitchen area where we could eat continental breakfast and visit. A variety of books and magazines were available for guests. There were snacks and cold drinks in the kitchen area for our enjoyment throughout our stay. The hospitality and friendliness of the staff were excellent. They were very accommodating to our needs. Large porch with rocking chairs was wonderful to catch the breeze and gather to visit. Great location close to restaurants, shopping and walking and biking trails. We would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Manteo.

They were fabulous hosts and helped to make our family trip very special, including a special treat for my mother. They helped to plan our family's surprise my mother who was already staying at the Inn with a new car!
The location of the Inn is great, right on the water in the heart of downtown Manteo. Great walking town and very easy to take a car ride over the bridge to the beaches and restaurants in Nags Head. Rooms are very clean and comfortable. Some with water views, some with garden views. The Bungalow makes a great stay for a small family. Breakfasts foods available in the kitchen each morning. Great to make plates and take back to your room/Bungalow, or eat in the common areas of the Inn.
Our family took a dolphin tour with Capt Johnny's which was great fun. After coming to the Outer Banks every year for the past 14 years, we had never done that. We took some great pictures.
Lunch at Poor Richards (pulled pork sandwich is terrific) and Big Al's was great. Our usuals for dinner: Kelly's (must try the Filet Oscar and the sweet potato biscuits), Port O'Call, Owen's, Pamlico Jack's. All with great seafood options as well as typical American fare.
Our family is looking forward to another trip to the OBX in September, staying oceanfront in Avon on Hatteras Island and possibly making a Fall trip to the Roanoke!

Our two 6 year olds and my wife and I had a lovely week staying in this Inn. It's location is perfect One can walk to all kinds of charming spots in this charming old town and historic areas and it's just a 10 minute drive to the most beautiful beach you can believe at Coquina Beach. And the Innkeeper is charming helpful cheerful and a delight. Great!

My boyfriend, sister, and I stayed at the Croatan Cottage July 15-18, 2012, and we had a wonderful time. This cottage is a recent addition to the owners of the Roanoke Island Inn--also a very nice place to stay, but if you are looking for a home all to yourselves, I highly recommend the Croatan Cottage. This is a Sears and Roebuck craftman-style home with beautiful period furnishings and woodwork. The cottage is larger inside than you would think from looking at the outside. Downstairs, it has a small living room with a television and to the left of that room is a game/reading room with a decent-sized table. It has a separate dining room and full kitchen, equipped with pots/pans, dishes, utensils, dish soap, paper towels, etc. A nice surprise is they have a large Keurig coffee maker, supplied with various coffees and a basket of individually-packaged goodies for your enjoyment. Downstairs there is a full bathroom with shower and a twin bedroom. Upstairs there are two king bedrooms, each with their own full baths (with showers) and a nice office. All bedrooms have a good-size television--even larger than the one in the living room. They also have Wi-Fi! All the comforts of home!

Outside in the back, there is a nice deck with a table, unbrella, and chairs. It was too warm when we visited to enjoy that area, but we loved the large front porch with rocking chairs and a swing. We sat out there every morning and had our coffee and said hello to anyone passing by bike or foot. Across the street, down a couple of houses is an old farmhouse that, shortly before his passing, was purchased by Andy Griffith and his wife. Next door to that house, and directly across from the Croatan Cottage is a home with four parrots, that are kept on the front porch. We were entertained daily by those birds. We couldn't believe it when one of the birds started whistling the Andy Griffith theme song. This definitely was a highlight of our stay there. They didn't annoy us at all. It seemed the parrots were mostly active in the morning and in the evening for just a little while.

All linens, tp, etc. are included in the cottage--so no need to bring bedding, towels, etc.
