“Somewhat disappointed but all in all good”

Best Western Canyon de Chelly Inn

Apr 1, 2008

Don't get me wrong. The staff was great except for not receiving our wake up call. The room was spacious, clean and nicely decorated. Restaurant on property had wonderful blue corn mush and pancakes not to mention regular items. But we were disappointed in the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna, we were soooo looking forward too. After a long day of exploring the canyon, we wanted to come back to a nice swim and rest our muscles in the hot tub and sauna. The pool was cold, hot tub luke warm at most with very few jets working and the sauna no matter how long we let it warm up it never got there. Once we were done trying them all and were very disappointed and felt we definatelly needed to shower because we weren't sure how clean it was. All in all, if your going and you really don't want to use the pool, hot tub and sauna it's great but if you do you'll be disappointed unless it changes.

“We loved the Chinle Best Western!”

We loved this plac! Spacious rooms that were nicely decorated (loved the wooden beams on the ceiling completing the southwestern feel) and very clean. The kids loved the indoor pool and the adjacent restaurant was so good that we ate every meal there despite planning originally to try others. The staff at both the restaurant and hotel are very polite and helpful and professional, the restaurant is also very clean and newly decorated or remodeled and has an interesting menu with traditional navajo dishes as well as pizza for the kids. We plan to go back to Canyon de Chelly and will definitely stay here...best lodging experience of our long road trip so far!

We just stayed one night and had a good experience. The kids enjoyed swimming in the indoor pool. The room was typical motel. Our only issue was the heating unit is pretty loud when it turns on.

The restaurant on site was better than expected. The service staff did a great job, quick w/ refills and taking orders. We felt the staff was friendly.

We arrived late afternoon and did the south rim drive. Hiked down to white house ruins. Great hike -recommend it.

THe highlight of the trip was our canyon tour. We chose Antelope Tours with Adam Teller. He did an excellent job describing the canyon and it's people. We highly recommend him. We booked through his website. I would not recommend just going with what your motel recommends-you just do not know what you are getting.
Our boys age 7 and 10 really like driving through all the water at the canyon bottom.

“Newly Remodeled!”

Best Western Canyon de Chelly Inn

This is the third time we have stayed at the Best Western Canyon de Chelly in the past two years. We have always had a good experience. Last year we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival to find that they had completely remodeled the motel rooms. In December, they remodeled the restaurant. The food is reasonably priced and tasty. There is also a Pizza Hut. The property is updated and clean. This is the only property in this area that offers an indoor pool, sauna and jazuzzi. The Navajo employees are friendly. We enjoy staying at Best Western Properties. We come to Canyon de Chelly once a year. The canyon is truly beautiful.

“Beware of hidden charges”

My family and I stayed one night to check out Canyon De Chelly. The motel provides the standard amenities. The heater was loud and woke me up every time it came on during the night. That wasn't so bad since we were only staying for one night. But what was unreasonable was the extra "energy charge" that showed up on the bill when we checked out. The energy charge, the front desk clerk said, was for the use of water and electricity. Huh? Wouldn't those be included in the room cost? The energy charge was never mentioned in the reservation emailed to us. Neither was the fact that the local tax went up, a fact that apparently still doesn't show up in the Best Western's central reservation system. I called Best Western's customer service and was told that individual motels are allowed to tag on extra charges and those charges wouldn't show up on the reservation. This is a deceptive practice. We will avoid Best Western in the future.
