“Best meal in San Diego!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 5, 2013

Traveling with a group of friends, we happened upon Saigon on Fifth on a recommendation from one of our pals. What a perfect setting for a long, delicious meal of shared entrees. From beef to shrimp, from chicken to pork, from tofu to eggplant, we ordered separately and passed around dishes. Every dish was a delight! I think the yellow curry with chicken was my favorite, but everything was marvelous. The eggplant dish was a taste of summer in the midst of February. Cocktails were creative and appreciated. The atmosphere and decor were serene and the service was attentive without being intrusive. If I had only one night in San Diego, and I've been there often, Saigon on Fifth is without a doubt my first & only choice!

“Vietnamese dishes are great, very authentic tasting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013

We come here often; Vietnamese dishes are great, very authentic tasting! Atmosphere, decor, and layout is nice. Only downside is the prices are little on the high side for Vietnamese dishes, but hey it's a nice place.

Parking structure with validation is sure nice in this area of very little available street parking.

“Very good Vietnamese”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

This is a lovely restaurant owned and run by family who take great pride in their establishment. We dined there twice during our visit. The salad rolls are made with basil leaves, adding a lovely change of taste from establishments who make their's with lettuce leaves. The special rice served Ina carved pineapple had a lovely flavour and texture,as did the chicken clay pot (although a bit too sweet at times), vermicelli also very nice. Service is very attentive.

“Rating Would Have Been Better If, Service Was Better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Three of us dropped in for a late lunch. We all chose The lunch special that included:
A Classic Entree, Soup, Ginger Salad, Rice with your choice of:
Vegetarian/Tofu/ Mock Chicken 6.95
Chicken/Pork/ Beef 7.95
Shrimp/Calamari 9.95
Scallop/Mix Seafood 11.95

I had the shrimp & calamari with a selection perfectly cooked Asian vegetables, herbs, & a light sauce. I ordered a 5 on the hotness scale. But, it was more like a 2. There was not any chili sauces on the table to spike it up. The soup, salad, & rice of choice were all well prepared.
The white table cloth atmosphere promised better service than we received. The servers seemed more eager to go to the bar in the back to eat their own lunches than to make the experience a little special.

Both of the people in my party also, enjoyed their lunch choices. I would have given this restaurant excellent if, the service was a little more caring.

“Delicious meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2013

After a rainy day at the museums in Balboa Park, we decided to search for food in the Hillcrest neighborhoood, one of our favorites in San Diego.

As it was very cold outside, we were in the mood for soup, and pho sounded just perfect.

We found a parking space right near Saigon on Fifth and knew we were meant to eat here! We had some appetizers and a seafood pho. Everything was delicious and hit the spot.
