“GREAT BUDGET HOTEL -CONVIENENT & CLEAN”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

When we take vacations we usually stay at very nice hotels but for traveling we like more budget friendly places. La Quintas are great because they are pet friendly, reasonably priced and the higher priced ones are usually very clean with much newer decors.

This La Quinta was right off the highway so it's convenience was perfect. It has very nice, clean rooms with fridges & microwaves. The beds are comfortable, the breakfasts are awesome compared to most of the other La Quintas - they had hot items like breakfast meats, gravy & biscuits etc.

The staff was super nice. We were first placed in a handicapped room which didn't work for us because the shower head was only chest high & other such problems. We had all day plans for the next day so we were allowed to leave our belongings in that room until the following evening & then we moved to a regular room; they were so accommodating.

If you need nice room at a budget price, this is an excellent option.

Room Tip: Don't accept a handicapped room if you are not handicapped.

Plus side was the room decor - cool shapes and colors, and the laminate flooring in the bathroom was a welcome change from cold tiles. Minus side was a small room, musty smell in the room, a pool that looked nothing like the picture, unattractive neighborhood, and difficult access. I will choose elsewhere next time.

My wife and I stayed here for an extended weekend stay, and we were thoroughly impressed, and would recommend this hotel to others staying in the San Diego area. Breakfast is included in the price, with waffles, scrambled eggs and sausage, biscuits and gravy, breads, cereal, yogurt, etc.
CLEANLINESS
- The room and bathroom were very clean. No fingerprint smudges on the outside window!
SERVICE
- The young front desk gal was very friendly and suggested places nearby for dinner. More importantly the breakfast area was well looked after by another lady who seemed to really take pride in making sure the area was very clean and fully stocked.
LOCATION
- The hotel is just to the West of I-5, and not by any beach. However, it is convenient to all San Diego attractions, such as Sea World (10 min), old town (10 min), downtown harbor (15 min), Cabrillo Natl Monument (15 min), La Jolla (5-10 min). Our room was facing west, away from I-5, so we didn't experience any freeway noise as one might experience on the east side of the building.
VALUE
- We thought that the overall value was quite good. If you want harbor or beach views, you're going to pay for it and this isn't the place to stay. However, if you don't mind spending up to 15 minutes driving to those points, then this offers a good value proposition.
ROOMS
- We were in a king room, and we found it to be quite roomy. Additionally, there is a small refrigerator and microwave for those times when you might have some leftovers!

hello Jovialjourneys

We are very pleased to hear that you and your wife enjoyed your extended weekend with us and are impressed with the upkeep of our hotel. As you are aware, our breakfast staff takes pride in the breakfast area and the food we serve. Our staff is held in a high manner with the upkeep of the hotel, the customer services we offer and the value we help give your vacation. The location is just minutes from the major attractions such as the San Diego Harbor where you can enjoy a nice sunset dinner cruise, La Jolla shores where many of the sea lions come out to play on the beach and of course the many bars and restaurants in Downtown San Diego. Our rooms and hotel were recently renovated with new flat screen tvs, beds, and linen. We are pleased that you noticed that.
Hope to have you and your wife come back again soon.

Thank you
Mallarie

I stayed two nights at the La Quinta Mission Bay in regular room with queen bed. I really like LaQuinta and stay at their suites when traveling. There breakfast consists of more than just cereal and juice and they have free wi-fi. This room was smaller than what I'm used to in most LaQuinta's. It was very nicely decorated (recent upgrade). Modern and clean. The room did have a desk for your computer and a counter for coffee. The flat screen TV was not HD. First time I have stayed at a LaQuinta that didn't have HD. I hope this wasn't considered a suite (due to the size) but it did include a microwave and fridge. Free parking and most of it is covered on two levels, the main and a lower level that your enter from the other side of building...nice in case you visit when it rains.

The complimentary breakfast included a number of hot foods (sausage, gravy, biscuits, waffles and eggs) along with the usual cereals, yogurts, muffins and bread (but no bagels) and juices. They didn't have a lot of fruit which was a disappointment. Only bananas. Usually they have oranges and apples.

Fitness room was one treadmill, one elliptic and two cycles. The elliptic panel did not work, but the machine itself did. The room was on the lower level and the ceiling wasn't that high. I am 5'4 and since the elliptic is higher off the ground I was a maybe 2 feet from the ceiling. So a man of average height might have to think twice to use the elliptic.

There were also two computers onsite for guests to use. There was the lobby and a separate sitting area and dividers so computer users have privacy.

The only negatives I have are: in my bathroom, their was large hole where the pipe from the toilet to the wall was connected. Big enough for someone to stick their finger in. Something that could easily be patched. Also the carpet along some of the stairways were filthy. I used the stairways a lot instead of waiting for the elevator and even though it sees less foot traffic, it still should be cleaned. A person staying above me, I don't know if it was the structure or they thought they were big foot, because they walked VERY HARD. When I called front desk, they said if it continued to let them know and they will talk to the guests. I thought that was very helpful. Lastly, major nicks on the bedroom headboard and the dark furniture Enough that its noticeable. Nothing some paint can't cover up. I know, I’m being extra picky.

My stay included trips to Oceanside, Downtown and Airport. I barely used 1/2 tank of gas for the 2 days. It is off the major freeway so keep that in mind during high traffic times and the entrance is kind of hidden away on the hill. Thank goodness for my GPS. Also, the staff was very pleasant and courteous. Definitely would stay in the future.

You need a car because most things we did were out of walking range, nice clean hotel, friendly staff, large rooms and overall a good nights sleep! It was just in our budget, would defiantly stay here again! It's also easy to find just off Garnet Ave, it's close enough for a taxi to nice places to eat and drink, the area is also nice and friendly too!
