“hotel is ok, but location/parking is....”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 24, 2012

hotel is nice/clean and staff is very nice. The major issue is the location and parking lot.
I had to cut my seaworld night short being worried that I may not find parking. You can't even get your car out easily due the small spaces. I expected more for a ~$150per night. Who ever designed the hotel didn't think about the location/parking lot. I also had hard time finding the hotel due to its location; the street sign was even smaller than the store next to it. I would really recommend that management get a bigger sign and think about how to provide at least one parking spot per room!

Dear M J,

Thank you for taking the time to express your thoughts and concerns regarding your recent stay with us. I am happy to hear that our staff was helpful during your stay. I am deeply sorry that we were not able to accommodate your parking needs. Your suggestion about larger signage has been documented and will be forwarded to the appropriate departments for necessary actions. Your feedback is very important to us as this assists us in continually improving the services and facilities we have to offer to our guests.

We hope that you give us a chance to change your perception of our hotel.

Sincerely,

This hotel is in a great location for a visit to Sea World. Luz at the front desk was very friendly and we checked in a few hours early. The room was spotless and very updated. As we spent the whole time away from the hotel, I can't comment much about the shops or restaurants around. Parking is as others have said, very tight. I even took the smallest family car we have, a VW Beetle, and it was a tight fit. Also, some people had to park on the street, or across the street. Breakfast was good, the same as at most hiexpress locations. The area is small, but I wouldn't overlook this hotel due to the small breakfast area. You can hear a bit of plane noise from the nearby airport. We were so tired from our day's activities that it didn't bother us in the least. No view, but again, we had no reason to look out the window. All in all, a fine place to stay in San Diego.

We booked this hotel thinking that it would just be another hotel in a not so great area, but close to the airport for our flight out the next morning. We were pleasantly surprised. They let us check in about an hour and a half early. The room was very, very clean and recently updated. The beds were extremely comfortable with four pillows on each bed (two hard and two soft pillows!). The decor was soothing and there was a flat screen TV. Two complimentary bottles of water came with the room. The desk chair was very comfortable. The only downside was the lack of a view; the window faced the neighbor's roof. Breakfast starts at 6 am, perfect for those of us flying out early. The breakfast itself was impressive. There was a make-your-own pancake machine, a nice selection of breads (bagels, white and wheat toast, English muffins, etc.), muffins, cinnamon rolls, cereals, milk, yogurt, and hot items (omelettes, sausage patties, biscuits and gravy), coffee, juices.... I think the breakfast was probably one of the better hotel breakfasts that we have had on this trip, which is why this hotel deserves a five star rating. Plus, you can't beat the price. A family of five, two queen beds and a sofa sleeper, with breakfast included was $99. The hotel is also close to Old Town, a few minutes drive. The neighborhood is not really walkable, but we did not see vagrants as we did when we stayed at the Days Inn on Rosecrans (I would not recommend that place). And for bead lovers, there is a huge bead warehouse next door!!! There is also a pool and hot tub which we did not use.

The night staff when we checked in was extremely helpful and friendly especially Jomar. The rooms are clean and updated. The hotel is located less than a mile away from sea world.

This is an excellent location if you're thinking about visiting Sea World. Downtown district is a mere 5 min drive but just across from this hotel are a couple of great restaurants as well. The room was exceptionally clean, new furnitures, clean bathroom and great staff. There is a 24 hour fitness and an outside pool. Breakfast was served on time and offers a lot of varieties. I would definitely stay here again. I just noticed that if you book your hotel early in the morning, you have great chances of getting those hotel deals.. I booked this hotel while having breakfast and when I checked again just after lunch, the prize bumped up 60 $ more.

You could not ask for a more conveniant location. Seaworld is literally right down the street. The ocean is a five minute drive from the hotel. Old Town San Diego less than ten minutes. The highway to get downtown has an on ramp next to the hotel.
As far as the hotel goes; I've stayed at many HIE and this is one of the best. The staff is the friendliest that I can remember. Our room had a flat screen TV, a remodeled bathroom, and very comfortable beds.
There are some things that are beyond the hotel's control but should be mentioned.
Do not rely on a GPS to find the hotel. You may want to call when you get in town and have the desk give you directions.
There are panhandlers around the hotel. One sits in front of the CVS across the street all day. I don't know why the store manager allows this.
The view from your room may be the back of a local business. But this was of no concern since we were out and about each day during our stay.
This is a very good hotel and I will stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the business in front dumpsters.
