“Good location - close to Sea World and the beach.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

This hotel is convenient; close to the beach, Sea World, shopping and restaurants without the congestion of Mission Bay/Beach. We traveled with our married children who stayed in another room. When we booked the rooms, we asked if we could have rooms next to each other and were told we would have to request that at check-in. Of course when we checked in, they said there were no rooms available next to each other.

We stayed in a junior suite which was roomy, but an odd layout. The dividing wall between the living area and the bedroom prevented the airflow from the air conditioner (which was in the living area), despite a small fan built into the dividing wall. The vanity/sink was right next to the king bed so there was no privacy if someone wanted to go to bed early. The king bed was comfortable, but the pillows were miserable! I considered going to Target to buy another one. Otherwise, the room met our expectations - clean and spacious, with a working refrigerator and microwave. We had a great view of the Sea World fireworks.

The hotel grounds were a disappointment. The lobby was very clean, but that's where it stopped. It did not appear that they took much time to clean the grounds. I never saw anyone cleaning sidewalks, parking lots or doing any gardening. There were bird droppings everywhere on the sidewalks, broken roof tiles, chipped paint. I know that is a constant job to clean up after birds, but that's just the price of doing business. Not only is it unsightly, it is unsanitary. The property had an overall dirty feeling. The maintenance/laundry room was right in the middle of the property. When we had to walk to the pool/restaurant/office, we had to step over dirty cleaning water to get there. The pool and spa were clean, but the spa while hot, did not have any working jets. No jacuzzi...just hot water. The pool towels were very thin and about the size of large hand towel - fine for a child, but not an adult. There are no bathroom facilities at the pool - you have to go into the restaurant, but cannot access it from the pool area. You have to go around. Also, as far as the restaurant goes - it advertises it is also a bakery but they only have pies. We went there in the morning hoping to get pastries or donuts, but there was nothing.

Considering the price of the hotel (on a government discount), I would stay here again only because of the convenience. If I had to pay regular price, I would find somewhere else.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room and one away from the elevator.

This was our second stay at the hotel. The staff at check in were courteous and efficient. This is always a good sign to us. The mini suite was very comfortable and clean. With TVs in both rooms, my husband and I could watch our own shows or watch TV in bed. The bed was comfortable and we slept very well. The staff were great in providng extra pillows and towels when needed. We did notice that we had to call for wash cloths and hand towels almost every day. They were delivered promptly.

We did not eat at the restaurant this time because it was very expensive. That's no problem; however, because the hotel is within walking distance of other restaurants as well as drug stores, etc.

We'll definitely stay again.

Room Tip: We always like to be upstairs. We were in bldg. B and it was a good location. From room 225 to about...

We had lots of problems with this hotel. The biggest was that the plumbing leaked and the toilet spewed over the top twice in the first night. We had not even used the toilet and had a rvier of fecal matter rushing acorss the floor and into the bedroom. The maintenance man plunged the toilet but it happened repeatedly. The maid service was sopping up with our white towels and carrying the dripping mess across the whole room. Of course they were dripping into the rug and and everywhere. We asked to be moved to a clean room with working plumbing, but the hotel was overbooked and could not move us. It was 1;30am , so we stayed. Needless to say we were creeped out all night. They said we could have a new room by noon the following day. We packed all up and never got a new room until 5pm. We asked for a room refund for the flooded night. They said that could not do so because we booked through AARP. We have been trying to get money back but have seen no compensation yet. I DO NOT recommend this hotel!

Dear Margaret,
I appreciate your comments and will use your feedback to the hotel's advantage. We enjoyed having the teams here, as the majority of your team enjoyed the hotel, the pool and the location. We are proud of our new rooms and feel our product is superior to any in our area. Please return to us soon, perhaps when the city is not so busy.
Best Regards,
Brenda Graves

We could hear everything going on outside which was unpleasant in the middle of the night. The bed and pillows aren't the most comfortable but I like the layout of the room and the convenience of the bunk beds to accommodate our little kids. The room was warm and humid despite many adjustments to the air. Other than that we loved the location of the hotel. It was very convenient getting to the beach and Sea World. It was a great deal and very clean.

Dear Chris,
I appreciate your positive comments and will research the room you stayed in to address the humidity issue. We have replaced the majority of our air conditioners but still have some that are in the process of being switched out.
I am glad that your family enjoyed the "finest city in America," San Diego.
Please return to us soon.

This hotel was selected as the group location for a wedding and extended guests.

This was in a bad part of town. Rooms were very outdated, missing appliances, AC was loud and most of the buttons didn't do anything. bed was hard and pillows useless.

I couldn't beleive it was a Wyndham. Felt like I was in an old Motel 6 in the middle of nowhere not a primo town like San Diego.

Wireless internet was a joke. I ended up paing to activate my laptop verizon wireless.

To make a terrible stay even worse I had my Kindle stolen.

Meals in a separate onsite restaurant. Service awlful. food not much better.

Wyndham should sell this property at first opportunity and cut there losses.

Dear Craig,
Although I appreciate your feedback, I will have to disagree with your perception. We are proud of the progress we have made, since we reclaimed this landmark; and feel our newly remodeled rooms and Wyndham bedroom and bathroom standards are amenities that every guest could appreciate.
Please return to us and experience our caring staff and continuous improvements.

I booked this hotel through a website i.e Kayak, Orbitz. When I arrived, there was absolutely no parking at all- absolute chaos. I immediately call the website which I booked the hotel through, they called the hotel. They both agreed I should be billed; however, this hotel did bill. The security guard was telling everyone to park where ever- handicap parking, emergency areas, fire hydrants you name it. So people were even getting into arguments over parking. The security just stood there.

As to my refund, the hotel staff denied even having a conversation with the booking dept. Still waiting on my refund.

It turns out this location is part of the Wyndham franchise.HORRIBLE, DIRTY, IN THE GHETTO!! I do mean ghetto.

Room Tip: spend the extra money and get a hotel that will not steal your money. They overbook and make no apol...
