“Loved the Bahia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2005

My friends and I went to San Diego for Spring Break, and I had spent hours searching for a good hotel near the beach. We had booked the Bahia before I read all the reviews. Most of them were poor, and I was hesitant to stay there. Well it was a great place, so close to Mission and Pacific Beach and the boardwalk (maybe like a 5 minute walk!) The hotel was beautiful and clean, AND we got upgraded to the Governors Suite for NO extra cost! That was the best part- our room was excellent, great view, kept clean all week. There were no smells or bug problems at all, but then again we had the suite and I am not sure about the other rooms... I just wanted to clarify that the Bahia is not misleading in its pictures, it is a beautiful place. Just make sure to book a room in the part closest to the Lobby, it has 5 floors, other than the other rooms that are all on ground-level, farther from the lobby. If you stay in this building, your stay should be great.

Been here twice. First time we stayed in a Garden View Room overlooking Mission Bay. This is one of the cheapest rooms if not the cheapest. It was small and a bit damp and fairly dated but not unpleasant. The plus was that the patio door opens to nice walkway with palms and view across the perimeter road out to Mission Bay.
The second stay was a much nicer. Booked 2 nights in a Bay Front room overlooking Santa Barbara Cove and marina. Slightly bigger, airier room with sliding door to patio, lawn and beach - very pleasant view and surroundings. Great for kids since there is a playground on the beach near these rooms.
I managed to get a free upgrade for the second night to a Bay Front Deluxe room a few rooms down. Lovely room with seperate lounge and kitchen opening out to patio and beach. Very relaxing and nice to have that much more space.

All in all - nice location and grounds, good for families, basic rooms not exactly luxurious.

We stayed a the Bahia for Valentines Day weekend. We got a studio room which was very clean and roomy. I loved the big porch and window. We had a nice view. The staff was very helpful and courteous. Loved being so close to the beach and the bahia belle is a great way to get to the pacific beach nightlife for free! It was a great trip!

My wife and I stayed at the Bahia for one nite in early Jan 05. Our room was very poor and I do not recommend the Bahia. We stayed in a 'Garden View' room which was really facing a parking lot with Gleason Rd immediately outside our door- it was noisy & no garden view. We arrived past dark and had a very difficult time even finding the room: the grounds were very dark & there wasn't any lighting outside the room door- we didn't feel very safe. When we finally got the key in the lock, we stepped inside the room. It was completely dark and we had to stumble across the room in the dark to find a lamp because the interior light switch by the door had been rendered unusable with a cover plate. The room was cold and smelled like a damp, moldy cave. Someone had left the bathroom window open- maybe to try to air out the smell ? The carpet was damp in several places. The bathroom tub was dirty- apparently because dirt and insects, etc had blown in through the open window. We closed the window and started the room heater. It took all night to heat up the room to an acceptable level- the heater was old, noisy and very inefficient. It was late and we were so tired from travelling that we just fell into bed and tried to get warm. We complained to the manager the next morning. He was polite, apologized and offered a coupon for a discount on our next stay. We declined and won't stay at the Bahia again.

I stayed with a female friend during the first week of December, 2004. We were upgraded to a bayview room, with kitchen. This hotel is VERY convenient to the beach, she took the three block walk to the ocean every morning while I slept in. There is a laundry facility on the 3rd floor of our building, treadmills, huge jacuzzi and heated pool. Next door is a sushi place with half off sushi till 6:30 pm - nearby walking distance is Carl's Jr., cheap mexican place and minimart. Short drive to more restaurants on Sports Arena blvd. Relaxing way to take advantage of the warm SD weather in the winter.

My family and I stayed during Spring Break in 2003 on the ground floor of one of the smaller buildings and it was beautiful! The sliding glass door covered the entire wall and gave us a view of the lagoon, hearing the water was very soothing. The room was clean and the staff was curteous.
the room was spacious and we didnt feel crowded at all.
We are planning another trip there this spring break

If you get a room at the hotel tower, change or refuse it immediately for above you is a conference hall they rent out for weddings/conventions. Three nights of sleep were a write off because of the noise that came through the floor during different events. The next problem is the next morning at 5am they decided to clean up and hence there were tables and chairs banging everywhere... Management did nothing after we complained at morning..
