“Met ALL our needs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2009

From beginning, (making reservations) to the end, (both check out and lunch after lunch closing time), our experience was a sound investment of our time and money.

We were pampered, needs met before we could finish making our request known. Our son's reception was awesome. The serving staff was both friendly and attentive.

Because of the late night reception the night before check out, we asked for a one hour extended check out time. We were granted that request. Because there was a time delay for one of our party, their check out time was extended beyond the check out time. The Bahia Resort truly loves to meet the needs of their guest.

We had a group of 10 come into the cafe for lunch 10 minutes before closing for the afternoon to prepare for the dinner hour. Our hostess/server Jeannie was so gracious. She treated us like we were guest in her own home.

I can't say enough about the great friendly service.

Bahia is the finest hotel experience I have ever had in the continental US. The service and friendliness of the staff is outstanding. The facilities, location and activities are all five star. Wonderful surroundings, relaxing atmosphere and great location to walk to the Pacific ocean beach or catch a bus to Old Town or Downtown. definitely the place to stay again next trip to San Diego.

We stayed for a week in one of their Marina Suites, which was a nice size for our family of 3 and our dog. The hotel just became pet-friendly and we were happy to be able to stay there with him. The location is great! We went on daily walks and bike rides along the beach and bay. We knew it wasn't a 5 star hotel, so we weren't expecting that. The hotel is old, but they keep it up as best they can. Our room was clean and the staff very friendly. We will DEFINITELY stay there again!

When choosing a hotel in the San Diego area I did a lot of research to find the perfect hotel for my family to be near the water. After finding the Bahia Resort and carefully viewing their website, I thought it would be a dream vacation stay. This was not the case, however. The property itself is not nearly as grand as it appeared to us on their website. The lobby was quite small. We were given a room in the back of the property in the tall story building. Our room was on the bottom floor basically overlooking a parking lot. Not what I was expecting for our dream vacation. We immediately called the front desk and was upgraded to a bay front room for an additional $50 a night. These particular rooms were located along the two sides of the property. They looked like mini squares somewhat connected to one another. It was a very motel like style feel. Again, not what I expected. The property seemed a little run down and old, however there was always workers around performing routine maintenance and landscaping. Our room was quite large and had a great view of the bay and beach front chairs. Unfortunately, coming from New England we did not realize that May in San Diego would mean cold and cloudy. We did not get to enjoy our view or even utilize our new location. (not a fault of the Hotel's.) The restaurant was small, but we all had meals that we quite enjoyed. We did use the pool once even though it was very cold. Overall, we had a decent experience at this hotel. When we called the front desk to ask for pillows or to fix our door lock we were serviced immediately. Had I not viewed the website and expected more out of the property perhaps I would have enjoyed it more.

The Bahia Resort hotel is located in a very nice, very accessible part of Mission Bay. Pacific Beach is a short walk away and there are several activities located right on the hotel property. The pool was a little cool, but my kids loved it and my wife and I enjoyed a leisurely swim as well. The hotel was quiet and our room had a good view.

I recommend this hotel with a few caveats:

1) It's old. I liked the feel and ambiance, but others may find that it isn't modern enough.

2) Since it's adjacent to Pacific Beach, it can get chilly, especially in June. This is no fault of the Bahia, but some guests apparently don't understand San Diego and that this is common up and down the coast there.

3) The beds were a little uncomfortable. My wife and I couldn't quite pin down why since we've slept on harder beds without a problem. It might have just been the smaller double beds we had.

4) The food on premises is VERY expensive and VERY family unfriendly. Fortunately, there are several family restaurants in the area.

5) The TV didn't always work well for pay movies. This wasn't a big issue for us since we weren't in the mood, but for a longer stay my kids may have wanted to watch a movie and that would have been hit or miss.

After paying $200 per night, our expectations from Bahia were higher than what we got. Although the rooms were spacious, they were old and not very clean. The location of the hotel is right by the beach but the weather was cloudy and cold when we were there, so we didn't use the beach or the pool. There are also not many restaurants close by, so you need to take a cab or bus to go to the old town or gas lamp quarter. Overall, I don't think this hotel is worth the price, esp. during May/June, when it is never sunny in San Diego.

Staying here was for business, so free time was at a minimum. But with the Bahia being not only on Mission Bay (meaning I could sit on the beach at lunchtime), but was only a short walking distance to the ocean beach with its activities and a 10 minute drive to Downtown San Diego. The hotel has a nice indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant; food and food value was excellent! I didn't have a chance to use the pool or fitness center, but for someone who was "trapped" there for work (with no car-but the concierge was VERY helpful in setting up taxi service), this is an excellent resort at which to be "trapped"! PS: When you go, say "Hi" to the seals, Grace and Billy for me!
