“Nice resort hotel in good location on the bay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

We recently stayed here after reading good reviews of the hotel here on TA. We had a sutie with a bay view. The room was as large as advertised and worth the extra money. You have a separate living room area if you don't want to disturb others while watching TV. There is also a nice kitchenette area. Though the facility is older than some in the area the hotel is well maintained. The carpet, furniture, TV etc are all in new condition and the exterior appears to have been recently renovated. The staff was very helpfull when we asked questions and we were pleasantly surprised to find a cruise across the bay on a paddle wheeler was included. The free wi-fi was not fast enough to play games. If you have a 4g phone stay with the 4g instead of the wi-fi. Also, as a result of the hotel being older and not as well insulated as newer hotels we could hear our neighbors talking at night. We would return but would ask for a room on the east side of the hotel where as others have mentioned the view would be nicer.

Room Tip: Spend little more for a suite and ask for a room on the east side of the hotel

“Lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This hotel provides a beautiful setting with a great view of the bay. Only a short ride to many tourist locations. There are good restaurants nearby. We wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy all this hotel has to offer.

Room Tip: Stay in a room with a view of the bay.

“Pretty but location too far out of city”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This hotel was okay but out of all the ones we had stayed in during our 3 weeks San Fran to LA road trip, it was the most disappointing unfortunately.

I realise that if you want to be close to Seaworld etc then this is perfect, but if like us, you didn;t want to drive into town and wanted to be near the downtown area more, then this location wasn't ideal.

The buses are frequent enough in daytime but you have to get 2 and it takes around 30 mins to get into Gaslamp area of San Diego so not great for nights out (tax was around $35 to get back at night).

The room was dark and unfortunately smelt quite stale, not many lights in the room on the whole and one in the room and the bathroom didn't work.

The complex is sweet with a nice tennis court and pretty duck pond and swimming pool. The staff were polite and helpful and the night courtesy bus driver was a sweethear and very helpful with advice on where to go. Its sister hotel across the bay is where all the spa treatments are and it is definitely more upmaket of the 2.

Had it been more central i would definitely stay again (despite the odd smell in the room) and the walks around the bay and beach are nice, as is the boat trip over the bay. But if you're looking to see San Diego and experience it, i'd opt for somewhere down town rather than out in the Bay and close to Seaworld etc.

Room Tip: Oppostive the tennis courts on the ground floor had an odd stale odour - avoid

“Wonderful stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

Stayed for four nights and have no complaints. Great location for walking or biking to Mission Beach and around bay. Beautiful grounds and nice private beach. We stayed in a bay view suite and it was well worth the money (4th night free). We enjoyed the view to the east as there was plenty to observe: sailboats, rowers, kayaks. (I don't think that the west side view would be as interesting except for the sunsets.) Seems as if there is plenty to do at the resort but we were there during unseasonably cold, windy weather and couldn't enjoy the many outdoor activities that the resort has to offer. We did enjoy watching the seal feedings and enjoyed the pool. Free ride on the sternwheeler was a plus. We had a great experience and will return!

Room Tip: Loved the east-facing bay view suites but be sure to request the second floor. Ground floor suites...
