“You can't beat this place!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2010

I was leery as I always am booking a hotel online site unseen. Hotels always make the place look fab online and when you get there it just looks drab. I have had some pretty bad experiences with that. I must say though I was really impressed with this hotel. It was everything good people had to say about it and more.

First of all the location is fantastic, close to a shopping mall, Gas-lamp District, restaurants and it's only a few minutes drive to a ton of freeways that can take you anywhere in the city you may need to go.

The hotel its self is very clean and modern. It looks just like the website says it does. We stayed on the street side which I saw some people complain that it was super noisy. I didn't notice much noise at all on that side, but the back side is very quiet and the desk staff will ask which side you prefer when checking in. There was free internet in the room that worked perfectly. If you stay longer than three days you need to get a new code to access the internet as the codes run out after the three day mark, but just ask at the front desk and they will give you another one.

Because it's downtown and people work down there parking is at a premium. They have full valet parking with is $26 bucks a night, you can come and go all day for the price. We actually got a half price discount on parking for driving a hybrid so we only paid $13 a day. All hotels down and around that area of San Diego charge for parking though and it's usually more.

All of the staff were fantastic. They made us feel welcome and were very friendly and helpful. We asked about places to eat near by and the guy at the from desk gave us coupons for some discounts.

Price wise you can't beat this place. I searched every hotel in this area and you will not find a better deal for what you get than the Bristol. I can not say enough good things about this hotel. I am heading back to San Diego in May and won't even consider staying anywhere else. It suited everything I was looking for perfectly. Location, quality, service and price.

My son and daughter-in-law had their destination wedding at The Bristol Hotel in late December, 2009. The Bristol, located in a prime location of exciting downtown San Diego, provided a beautiful backdrop for the wedding and all the accompanying festivities. The hotel has a beautiful art deco decor in the lobby and rooms with a beautifully appointed ballroom. The fine art pieces throughout the hotel add to the atmosphere. The rooms and hotel, in general, were extremely clean up-to-date and well-kept. The entire staff was extremely helpful and accommodating in every way! From the beginning of the planning process and throughout the event, the service was personal and phenomenal. The small size of the hotel combined with superb service made our guests and us feel very comfortable. The wedding itself was amazing! Lisa Knoer, the catering manager, was attentive to every detail and helpful in recommending vendors for music, photography, etc. The menu was wide and the food was excellent. Lisa worked with us on pricing and was flexible and fair. Overall, I can't think of a better setting, the most magical moment being when the ceiling retracted during the bride and groom's first dance, exposing the beautiful San Diego night sky!

The Bristol is a hidden gem close to all the restaurants, bars, shopping, and conference center (important for my business trip). It is incredibly clean and modern, with a spacious room complete with flat screen TV and roomy bathroom. It had stylish decor with contemporary furniture, yet still comfortable. I also like that it's a "green" hotel with eco-friendly shower heads, lightbulbs, and soaps. However, I think the hotel has a ways to go before truly being eco-friendly, including organic cotton towels and linens, energy efficient TV and refrigerators, recycled paper, etc. It's a start though!

I wish the hotel had free or cheaper parking. Another $26 a day for the Valet parking, plus tip and tax, adds a hidden charge to the room fee. I also wish the hotel had a free continental breakfast.

We stayed here so we could go to a concert at the House of Blues and not have to drive back up to North County after. We were very pleased with the accomodations. Front desk service was great, it is one of the only hotels downtown with a hot tub. The rooms are a nice size (the botique hotels downtown can be rather tiny), have a fun decore and a great view of the waterfront. AND it was only 4 blocks from our concert destination. We had such a great time that I recommeded the hotel to my aunt & uncle when they visited in February. They had equally great things to say. The rates are good too. Valet parking is expensive, but it is at all the hotels that provide this service. It actually was about $10 cheaper a night than the Sophia's - which is just down the street.

It's my 1st time to San Diego. I tried to find a good hotel in San Diego from the internet for a long time. Finally, I decided to choose Bristol. When I arrived Bristol, it exactly meet my expectation! Everything is wonderful, especially the location. The room is also very clean. Service is great. $99 for each night(TAX included). There are lots of buses around the corner. It's very convenient. Civic center station is also closed to this hotel. If you want to take buses or MTS in San Diego during your stay, this hotel is the best choice.

If you want me to say something bad for it, maybe the only thing is, the breakfast is not included. It's pity. All others are very good. I will stay there again next time if they did not raise the price...

really enjoyed staying here. good location, only 15 min from airport, yet quiet (rm 603). Very clean, nice decor and interior architecture, friendly and attentive staff. If lucky, you can avoid the $26 valet parking, and find a nearby meter spot on street, ie across 1st street in front of hotel. Would stay here again, especially on online rate of $79 +tax.

I went to San Diego for the first time and met up with some old college friends. I got there a few hours early and the staff was really helpful and got my room ready before check in time. They were exceptioanlly nice and always helped me with directions and where to go for fun. Walking distance to everything!! Room was really cute and clean, I will definitely dtay here again. Only negative is its proximitey to the bus station, but they can't really help that.
