“Delicious! Incredible homemade ice cream”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2012

Mariposa Ice Cream is a little out of the way, but it's well worth seeking it out. This is some of the best homemade ice cream I've ever tasted. On the night I went, they had an impressive array of creative flavors (including nuez (walnut), Mexican chocolate, Butterfinger, white chocolate macadamia, and many more ... yum!). The ice cream was just perfect, and the owners were on hand to share their secrets with the diners. I also loved the shop's cozy, community-oriented vibe. A must for ice cream lovers in San Diego!

“Love it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012

Just when you thought the days of the Mom & Pop storefront ice cream parlor were over, here comes Mariposa Ice Cream. Situated in the increasingly popular Adams Ave commercial zone, this local favorite is now attracting devotees from around the area. Check the list of available flavors on the large white board behind the counter and be sure to ask for a taste of the ones that you are considering. We have never been disappointed in several visits. Each flavor is hand crafted from the finest local ingredients. You'll find all of the traditional favorites, plus new surprises that change daily.

“It didn't kill me...but wasn't worth the drive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2011

I was there today and had peanut butter chocolate fudge on a sugar cone. I have to say it was just so-so. Better than a quart from the super market but not amazing. I wouldn't recommend anybody make a special trip...and I'm sorry to say this because it is definitely a well known spot around Adams Ave.

“Good Lickin!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2010

This gem is found off the beaten path in one of San Diego's neglected neighborhoods. Parking is on the street so you may have to park a block or two away. An ice cream parlor that makes it's own treats is a throw back to life's simpler era. There is a flavor of the day as well as the usual flavors that can be found at larger tin can places. Service is personable, the treats are tasty, some prices are a little above average. Don't expect to get too much on the atmosphere side here. The tables/chairs are few and plastic.

“Wonderful Ice Cream Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2009

The owners make and scoop ice cream in this lovely little shop on Adams. We were given a sample of almost every flavor in the case. The Mexican Chocolate is outstanding!
The ice cream is not eggy and not too rich - tastes like you made it yourself. The menu is also well priced - $5.00 for a one scoop (large) sundae with all the trimmimgs. We love this place!
