“Not your usual Courtyard by Marriott - A very special property and staff!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

We just completed a 5-night group stay at the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego. From our very first interaction with John Parker from the Sales team to our very last goodbye to the Bell Staff, it was a pleasure to work with this hotel. The hotel staff is truly attentive and professional in every way. There are too many staff members to remember all by name, but John, Thea (FO), Alex (FO), Max (GS), Keith (Banquets), Monica (FO) and Leah S (Housekeeping) were all great. There were many others. Just a fantastic team that understands service all the way around.

The property is an amazing living piece of San Diego history. Anyone staying at this hotel should take the full tour of the lobby and make sure that you see The Vault meeting room.

Any of the staff will take you around, as they all take great pride in ensuring that their guests feel special, too.

My wife and I stayed here 3/20 and 3/21. The address is Broadway, but if you are valeting your car, you will have to come down 6th street. We drove from LA, and valeted our car. It is $40 a day to valet. This is A LOT. The building is an older building so it has ornate features throughout the hotel. Check-in was easy. Our room was large. Bathroom was good size as well. I wish all hotel rooms were this size. Only two complaints about the room is that the blackout curtains didn't go the bottom of the window, so a decent amount of light still came in, and we could hear whenever the person in the room next to us was going to the bathroom.

When we checked out, the cost was different then what we thought it would be, that was because the Marriott app is sneaky about the room rates. It showed $110 a night for our stay, but it was $110 for Friday and $205 for Saturday. Imagine our shock.

There is tons of great food and bars in the area. We recommend Cafe 21 for brunch. You will be waiting, but it is worth it.

Green Features: There was a Eco-friendly reminder on the bed to put on the door, so that the maid service wouldn't need to clean your room each day.

NIce hotel in a good location if you need to be in downtown San Diego or the Gaslamp District. The hotel is a converted old bank building and it works well. Nice lobby and bar area. No free coffee in the morning in the lobby but Starbucks available. Very clean, spacious and updated guest rooms. Only complaint is that parking is very expensive at $40 for the valet. All in all, a nice spot if you have businesdss in San Diego and are not looking for a resort.

This is not your standard cookie-cutter hotel. From the ceiling in the lobby to the elevator doors, it appears they have kept as much of the original old bank styling and architecture as possible. The staff were very helpful and polite. The bar is very modern looking and a bit out of character with the rest of the hotel. A fair selection of good beers. Wines are on the sweet side, so if you like dry white wine then drink elsewhere. As with many older buildings, the rooms are a bit smaller than usual, but I'm fine with that. The hotel is close to bus and tram stops, lots of bars and restaurants, and a short walk to the waterside attractions.

Room Tip: Room at the back of hotel was very quiet.

I loved everything about this hotel. It was in the best location, the interior is amazing, old and charming, The rooms are very nice, up to date decor, very clean, (hard to get a good view but not much you can do, about that). The staff was wonderful. They do everything to make your stay awesome. It is in the perfect location to downtown, walking distance to gaslamp district, the trolley, a short walk to the waterfront. This hotel made my stay amazing. I hope to get to vist San Diego again and i will stay again at this hotel for sure.

I have stayed at this Courtyard for multiple business trips. The staff is very easy to work with and the property is incredible. The old bank building has a very classic and upscale feel.

The bar is a must stop for just a drink, or even for dinner! The breakfast options are absolutely great. This definitely isn't your typical hotel food.

The customer service provided by the hotel and staff is better than almost any hotel I have stayed, and they work to suit your needs.

Room Tip: The higher the floor the better!

Very nice hotel in the heart of downtown San Diego. The rooms are just big enough to sleep and work at the nice desk. I have a view of the back of another hotel so no comment on views which is a shame because I am up on the 10th floor. The traffic is terrible in San Diego but they offer valet which is very nice. My luggage was taken from my car directly to my room; I didn't have to call for it to be delivered. The front desk staff was extremely helpful from helping me decide where to eat dinner, how to fix the internet, and where to find my meeting the next morning. The internet is really quite fast for such a large hotel; I was able to get my work done after eating at the very nice bar/restaurant downstairs. I will defnitely come to this hotel in the future!

Room Tip: Ask for a room NOT facing another hotel. Maybe facing Broadway if you want to see the city a bit mor...

Green Features: You can put the door hanger on your door if you choose against having housekeeping come in for stays of 2 nights or more. I like the idea of not having people roam around while I'm not there.
