“Amazing Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 days ago NEW

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Courtyard by Marriott San Diego Downtown, conveniently located in the heart of the Gas Lamp Quarters. This hotel exceeded my expectations: from the check in process by very professional and caring Front Desk Associates to the amazing househeeping staff with their attetion to details. To top it all off, the hotel is located in an old building which used to be a bank built in 1928. The architecture is beyond any I've ever seen in a hotel of any calibre and the buiding and rooms and immaculate. I would definitely recommend this hotel as a place to stay in San Diego whether you are on business or vacation. There are great restaurants and bars nearby and you can walk to just about every major attraction.

Room Tip: Sunnier rooms face the Balboa Park

Green Features: Bed Linens and towels are changed on a per request basis to save water (great idea)!

Here on business in San Diego recently, and having been in a couple of a Residence Inns in the area, this was a huge step up. On the edge of the Gaslamp district, there are a number of various eating establishments nearby, and I'd highly suggest finding something beyond just a simple bar and grill. I found a couple of solid Vietnamese and Meditteranean food locations within 2-3 blocks. So, very good location.

Rooms and decor? Almost like what you'd see in some of the Marriott Autograph Collection hotels. It's an old bank building, and there's certainly a historic feel to it. Rooms were spacious and mostly clean, save for a hair left over in my sink. It definitely looks like it's been recently renovated, and although it felt historic, it did feel new as well. As good a room as you'll find in a Courtyard branded Marriott.

As the previous writer mentioned, although the Gaslamp can appeal to those going out at night for dinner or drinks, it has it's fair share of obnoxious people and a few unsavory looking characters that are looking for easy tourist marks. Be advised.

This hotel has very nice, updated rooms, as described. The staff were also very friendly. However, as a single woman traveling on business I must note that I did not feel safe in the area outside of the hotel after dark. The hotel is on the edge of a sketchy area and there are a lot of vocal people on the street. But in total, the hotel itself is very nice for the price.

If you are planning a trip to SD and need a hotel to stay at I recommend the Courtyard by Marriott on Broadway. It is a converted bank (SD Bank and Trust) and they did an exceptional job with the conversion. I'm not a big believer in hotels, I prefer condos, but this hotel is done so well it is worth the money. The front desk was so receptive, polite and helpful. I couldn't get over the ambiance of the whole hotel. Vault, ceiling, floors, doors, phones, counters, all exquisite and they just did over all the rooms. Handicap friendly. (The parking is extra) The location alone is worth the money, gaslamp district, Balboa Park, the Wharf area all right there within walking distance. A real gem if you are into a distinct and really pleasant stay. It didn't look like much from the outside, go in you will definitely be thrilled. Thank you Marriott.

Room Tip: As at the front desk and they will choose the right room for quieter sleep.

My recent stay at the Courtyard exceeded my expectations in all ways. The service and accommodations were just about perfect, and the hotel's location was convenient to so many things. The room and bathroom were spacious, and the beds comfortable. Many restaurants were within walking distance, as was the pier, and the trolley stopped about a block away. Staff were always pleasant and ready to help in any way. Special thanks to Diego who gave us a tour of the beautiful, historical building and was so very knowledgeable about its history and enthusiastic about sharing it with us. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting San Diego.

This Courtyard is only two blocks away from Old Town San Diego. Food, fun, family and shopping are all there. The staff at the Courtyard were extreme courteous and the rooms were nice, what I normally expect from Marriott. They also have shuttle service to and from the airport. Great location to jump off from to visit the pier, etc.

We visited San Diego to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Number 47, so, it was kind of special. Two wonderful individuals (I'm sure there are others), Sandy and Ramon, clearly exceeded our expectations for service and support. From information about the history of the building, to recommendations on things to do and places to eat that fit perfectly with who we are, they made our stay a relaxing pleasure. Everyone we encountered was professionally attentive while being casually, but genuinely, friendly and unpretentious. I really don't think it gets much better than this. It is the people that make the difference. I know that sounds trite, but, I expect the building to be attractive, clean, safe, convenient etc.. When the people breath life and personalized attention into nice buildings...now, that is what I appreciate and would come back for.

Room Tip: Higher floors are best for a good view. Make sure you're facing west.
