“Very nice place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Very nice place and a great location. Room was nice and clean and everyone was super friendly.

They have an excellent happy hour and the building itself - once housed an old bank. Very nice environment.

Oddly they have room service for breakfast but not at any other time. Would have been a much better stay with longer room service hours.

I all of my 30+ years of travel, by experience this last week was by far the best! The hotel is amazing, be sure to ask Dennis or one of the staff to take you on a tour! The staff was amazing as well!! Jillian, Dennis, Josh, Eric, Ramon, too many awesome people to list, all contribute to make this an truly wonderful experience! I usually stay on the Waterfront, but this experience was so wonderful, I will be staying at the Courtyard from now on! The personal treatment was above and beyond any experience I have ever had.

Room Tip: You are in San Diego and should not be in your room.

Green Features: I did not notice too much, but they do have a recycle bin in your room.

My wife and I spent four nights at this Courtyard while I was in town to run a half-marathon. This Marriott resides in a beautiful former bank building. Many reminders of the bank lineage still remain, giving this accommodation a lot of character. The location is right near the Gaslamp District, so there are ample stores, restaurants, and bars accessible within walking distance. The San Diego Convention Center is also nearby. The hotel has a small restaurant with a limited menu - their breakfast was satisfactory, but other restaurants in the area offer a better value for the buck in my opinion.

Rooms in this hotel are moderate in size, clean, comfortable, and well appointed. What really makes this Courtyard stand out is the level of service. The team here really knows how to take care of the visitors - the housekeeping staff, front desk agents, and valets were extremely friendly and professional at all times.

Despite the extremely high but market standard charge for valet parking ($38 per night), I found this hotel to be a good value based on its proximity to the heart of downtown San Diego. I booked at a AAA rate that made this accommodation quite reasonable. Other than being disturbed a couple of times by loud people in the next room, our stay was excellent. I would recommend this Marriott without hesitation.

This hotel was once a bank building. Some 92% of the features are original, and the renovation work is very well done, making it a beautiful place to stay at a reasonable price point, as a Marriott Courtyard property. All of the staff here were excellent - from the front desk agents to the valet parking folks to the maid staff to the restaurant servers. Its central location means that it is an easy walk to the waterfront, the Gaslamp Quarter, or Little Italy. We stayed for 5 days and it was wonderful.

A group of friends and I stayed here this past weekend. We were in town to run the half marathon, which was a great experience by itself. I had made the reservation by phone in February. That is four months ago. We were surprised to be greeted by Ana Laura Becerra, who had made my reservation by phone, and who clearly remembered FOUR MONTHS LATER that we were there to run the 1/2 marathon and to celebrate a friend´s 40th birthday. We were greatly surprised and felt so happy to have chosen the Courtyard. The hotel itself is beautiful, it used to be a bank, and has kept many details of its past. Our rooms were spacious, clean, perfectly comfortable. But the service... Wow. The service was amazing. Ana Laura made our stay extra special when we came back one night and found a handwritten card for the birthday girl, with a bottle of chilled sparkling wine and chocolate covered strawberries for us to toast. This was really incredible, we were so grateful and happy. Our weekend in San Diego was truly spectacular, in many ways thanks to these kind of details. Coming back from the race, the front desk staff was waiting for runners with cold bottles of water and a smile. The staff in general was super friendly and tried to help with everything. The valets, the bell boys, the waiters at the restaurant and bar, the front desk, everyone made sure we had a wonderful time. I absolutely recommend this hotel and definitely have to come back to San Diego and stay here again. Thank you, Ana Laura and the rest of the staff, we had an amazing time.

Loved, Loved it. Make sure you speak with Sergio at the front desk and get to know Kamal(concierge). You will not be disappointed. Ask Kamal about the "secret room," and let Sergio recommend the best local eats of San Diego (not the commercial chain restaurants). The entire staff was wonderful and the property was very well positioned to the waterway and the Gas Lamp District. To top it all off, it is a very historic property that was a bank up until 1999. You must go see the vault (ask Kamal and he'll give you a tour). In fact, look at lock box 1225 and open the lockbox to the upper left (red up left from 1225). There is a note there for you (left by my son - leave the note though because he wants to go back in 20 years to retrieve it). What a great find and the family had just a super stay. We'll be back for sure. Oh, the beds are very comfortable - do yourself a favor and sleep in and enjoy the cozy sleep.

Room Tip: get upper floor. city view or water view...can't go wrong

What a lovely hotel, we had a lovely room, very large. You can go and see the old vaults which are used for meeting rooms. It isn't far to walk to the sea and you are very near to all the places to eat and drink. This hotel has happy hour and gave us home cooked crisps with our drinks. The staff were very helpful when we wanted to book a Whale watching trip.
