“Perfect downtown hotel for a weekend”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Stayed two nights. Great downtown location within a short walk of many restaurants, bars, theaters etc. Perfect for the weekend. Nicer than the typical courtyard. Good price. Parking is steep at $36 per day but I hear that's in the normal range for the area.

Blibberblubber, Thank you for your review. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your weekend stay and our convenient location. Being in the downtown we are near the Gaslamp District, but are only able to offer valet parking. I hope you choose to stay with us again on your next visit to San Diego.

Located at the north end of the Gas Lamp District the hotel is ideally located for the District, Horton Plaza, and Petco Field. The reception staff and housekeeping were among the very best I have ever experienced. They were attentive and always had a pleasant greeting. The room was extremely quite in spite of overlooking a fairly busy street. The bed comfort was superb and plenty of towels and toiletries were provided. I was very pleased!! On a negative note, the food and beverage service was less than satisfactory. Happy Hour beverages seemed watered down and the service was slow. Service for breakfast was slow and inattentive. There was a long wait for poorly prepared and overpriced eggs. Coffee refills had to be requested during a 25 minute wait between food order and delivery. It just may have been a bad day for the food service staff, although they were hardly busy. The bottom line is I defiantly plan to stay at this Courtyard again because of the many positives experienced. There are an abundance of eating and drinking establishments in the area.

Calflyer80, thank you for your kind words about our guest services and housekeeping staff. I am sorry to hear that you did not have an equally enjoyable restaurant experience. I will bring up these issues with our restaurant staff, as that is not the Marriott standard. I am glad to hear that the rest of your stay was pleasant and you hope to return. Please feel free to contact me or the supervisor if you need help with reservations at Ashley.reid@cymsandiego.com or Veronica.padilla@cymsandiego.com

We stayed here for one night after being at Sea World all day. I didn't want to fork out over $30 for valet parking so we ended up parking across the street in an open air car park which actually was still pretty expensive. The hotel is very nice. We were greeted by a very friendly lady who checked us in efficiently. The lobby is very open and impressive, and the room we stayed in was lovely with a very comfortable bed. There were lots of restaurants in the Gaslamp area which was only a few blocks away.

The Marriott itself is an OK Hotel. Well located in downtown San Diego Clean enough Staff presented well I think what let it down was there was no atmosphere - you really did feel like a tourist We ate breakfast at the Hotel one of the three mornings we were there & it was really ordinary. They supply Starbucks coffee - terrible They should really learn how to use the Starbucks machine properly. Had a drink at the Bar one night - really poor service Could not buy a drink of choice - my partner & I decided it was just much easier to eat & drink at the many wonderful restaurants & bars around San Diego We enjoyed San Diego but wouldnt rush back to the Marriott.

Deb C, I am sorry to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us. I will definitely get with our restaurant manager about training our evening staff on the Starbucks machine more. Although it seems you were able to enjoy our convenient location, I apologize that you did not receive the Marriott standard best service that we have to offer. Next time you are in San Diego, please contact me or the supervisor ahead of time to help you with a reservation so that you can experience our true guest services skills. You can email us at Ashley.reid@cymsandiego.com or Veronica.padilla@cymsandiego.com.

The hotel itself has a lot of character as there is an old bank inside that has been converted into a sitting room. Inside the bar area is nice as well as the updated aesthetic appeal. The hotel was close enough to awesome restaurants (Brian's 24) and clubs (The Onyx). Our favorite part of our trip was the service from the staff! The bell men (Ramon & Michael especially) were not only friendly but made it a point to assure us that no request we asked for was a burden in the least. I would recommend this hotel to friends & family!

Stayed in this hotel as part of our Road Trip September 2013. Due to road works entrance to the hotel and valet parking were hard to find even with the Sat Nav. The good news is that this was the only thing we could find to complain about. The hotel staff from the moment we arrived were very helpful and we found the atmosphere within the hotel very welcoming. The interior being an old bank was very opulent and you must visit the old vaults downstairs, which are now meeting rooms. The bedrooms as other have said could do with some updating, but this did not stop us from enjoying our stay. Breakfast was great and each serving was enough for two. Restaurant staff and bar staff were fantastic and always willing to help with all our questions. Happy hour in bar from 5pm was certainly enjoyable with a good selection of beer. If you couple all of this with the great location for the Gaslamp Quarter and other attractions you have a perfect stay.

This is a great place to stay for the business traveler. The staff was very helpful. The location is great. The rooms are very clean. The lobby is a great place to unwind after a long day, and has great happy hour specials. The other guests I met in the lobby were also friendly.
