“Bank your stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

The hotel is located centrally with great places to eat, and gaslamp district around it. The convention center is a brisk 10 min walk, which warm you up. The rooms are nice and large, and the staff helpful. The breakfast is nice and free internet is always welcome.

“Don't bank on it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

My husband I used our free Marriott certificate to stay at this hotel for Saturday night and overall found it not be a hotel we would return to this hotel again. Let's break it down:

Plus: We did arrive early on Saturday and were able to check in early (before noon).
Minus: Staff at check in were kinda snotting and used a unfriendly tone.
Minus: Parking is $33
Plus: Cab ride from the airport with tip is only $15
Plus: Can walk to the gaslamp, Horton Plaza, the transit lines and Amtrak, and even the Seaport Village
Minus: Loud hotel room; lots of street noise; lots of noise from the evalator and hallways
Minus: Breakfast was AWFUL. We both had a the buffet - cold food and never were offered a refill on coffee until my husband went and help himself. (It was not busy). I will walk to Subway instead of ever eating there again.
Minus: The room was boring and rough condition. We had a king bed, one chair and office chair. The chair needed replacing.
Plus: Comfortable bed

I had stayed here once before and do find it to be in a good location; but will avoid this hotel in the future. I won't even waste my free night on it!

Room Tip: Away from the evalator. All of the rooms have a bad view.

I wanted to sincerely apologize for the experience you had at check-in. As you can see from the other reviews, this was an exception to our typical customer service. I would really like to speak to you more about your stay so I can coach and counsel our teams. We are going to be embarking on a journey to "revitalize" our hotel which I believe will address your other concerns. Again, I urge you to contact me and I assure you we can give you a more pleasant experience here at Courtyard. Thank you for your comments!

“Sleeping in the Bank”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Unusual for sure, this hotel is a converted 1928 bank tower. Very big rooms, wide halls. Staff were helpful & friendly. But the 40 ft high ceiling in the lobby and the marble everywhere makes it feel cold and grim. Our room and bath were clean, the mattress OK, the TV good. We were on the 9th floor and had a view of....nothing but the next door building.

The hotel is very close to the gaslight district, the tram, and Horton Plaza. BUT, there are large numbers of street-people everywhere, if that bothers you, don't stay here.

We appreciate your feedback about our hotel and surrounding area. You're right it does feel a little different when you walk into what appears to be a bank. The guests always come first, so let us know at check-in that you prefer a room with a view and we can see what we can switch around. If a standard room is unavailable we can offer upgraded "waterview" rooms for a small price that would give you that San Diego view I believe you wanted. We hope to have you back again in the near future!

“Great customer service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

I recently stayed there two nights for a convention, and was so pleased and delighted with the entire staff. They were courteous, friendly, and very professional. I was also most impressed with the fact that upon my arrival home, as I was unpacking, I realized I'd left several items of clothing in a drawer in my room. I called the hotel, and Lisa made sure to take care of everything and sent my items back to me right away. I would definitely recommend them and would stay there again. :)

Thank you for the compliments on our staff! I know this sounds cheesy, but we really do love coming to work each day and making our guests smile. Lisa is our housekeeping manager and is exceptional at returning those easily forgotton, but highly important items back to you. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us at the Courtyard and for sharing your thoughts. See you soon!

“Keep Looking”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

I hate to say it because the building is fantastic with so much possibility, and the staff is lovely, but this hotel is awful. I travel for business often and have never changed hotels before until now. Here's why:

-Dated and dingy rooms
-Mold in the bathroom
-Horrible bed- mattress like a plank
-Coarse sheets- really!
-Terrible food. A grilled cheese was harder than the mattress and poached eggs that were also hard (it's a theme!), tasteless, and on an untoasted english muffin. I paid a total of over $50 for inedible food.
-Room service only until 10:00 pm (but you really don't want the food anyway.)
-Steps down to the elevator. Not a problem unless you have heavy suitcases. But, who travels with those?

Wifi is free, though. And the location is good.

With an overhaul this hotel could be fantastic but until then spend your money elsewhere for a more comfortable stay.

While we seemed to impress you with our building and staff, I'm very sorry we didn't meet your expectations in other areas during your stay. We are undergoing a revitilization this year to update our rooms and eliminate the steps to the elevator. I do apologize about the experience with the food, I assure you that is not our standard. Please contact me directly to coordinate another stay and see if we can change your impression. Hope you're enjoying the fall season!
