Our room was basic, no-frills, but updated and very clean. The grounds were nicely kept, breakfast was good, and the manager was very nice.

The only negative thing that I can say is that the neighboorhood was somewhat run-down looking, although I felt perfectly safe at the hotel.

If you are on a budget and looking for a clean friendly hotel, then this is a good place to stay.

My mother lives in El Cajon and we need to go down to visit her frequently. Since her place is small and she has cats we needed to find a hotel that was both convenient and reasonably priced. We found that and so much more in the Lamplighter Inn. First off, the staff is so friendly you fell like you are talking to old friends. David, the general manager really makes you feel at home. The hotel is not fancy, but it really is nice and very, very clean. I doubt you could find a nicer place to stay in this price range. This is my go-to destination when visiting San Diego.

my wife and i (from minnesota) have stayed here 10 nights over the past 4 months. what sets this property apart from many others is the outstanding quality of the staff--helpful, knowledgeable, and efficient. while it is an excellent location for us, it may not be for others. but the bus stops very near the hotel, and the staff showed us how to take the bus to balboa park. we did, and it worked out well. we are seniors, so this cost us only $8 round trip.

I stayed at the Best Western Lamplighter for five nights with my wife and two young children while we were in San Diego for a wedding. What a great experience! My wife had wanted to stay at more of a resort hotel, but after comparing prices we decided that the Lamplighter fit the budget. The whole family enjoyed the stay.

The property is very clean and well-kept. The grounds are nicely landscaped and the pool area was great. We loved the breakfast (especially the waffles). Most of all, the staff was fantastic. Everyone was very helpful and pleasant.

The hotel is located away from downtown, but the highway is nearby, so we didn't have any trouble getting around. The Casa Machado Mexican restaurant next door is excellent, and we had three dinners there.

If you're looking for a reasonably priced place to stay in San Diego, and you don't need the poshness of the Ritz-Carlton, then the Best Western Lamplighter is for you!
