We arrived at this hotel when our receptionist at the Residence Inn at La Jolla Dr. did not honor our reservation when he claimed that our reservation had been made using the Marriott chain, and Marriott was 'not a sister hotel'. We had checked out of a Vegas hotel of the same chain and did a phone check-in during the day at La Jolla, expecting the keys at 4.00am! We craftily asked the rude guy at The Residence Inn whether we could check 'something on the computer', and we quickly booked our room at the Country Inn. We drove to the Country Inn, and a world of difference unravelled before our eyes! Ryan, the front desk staff was sympathetic to our plight, and promised to have a cleaning staff to prepare the first available room (it had been sold out) once the first guest checked out. 5 minutes later, a room had been found after a guest checked out early, and in we went. I have been to many hotels, and I try to leave positive reviews where I can; the staff at Country Inn and Suites were excellent! They went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and had a room to sleep, despite our last-minute booking! The room was nice, the breakfast had a lot of variety. It was very family oriented, lots of small kids around at breakfast, a good thing if families (the pettiest of them all) can make bookings here! It was fully booked, meaning that they were doing something right. It had internet in the rooms, and a free computer downstairs. It had a wonderful lobby, a pool, etc. You probably need a car, as it is 15-20 minutes away from downtown ( I saw a shuttle service van, so please ask), but it is about 3-4 minutes from the I-805 freeway. The lady at the reception Sunday night allowed me to make a phone call when she realized that my cell-phone was out of charge, which I considered out of the ordinary! I could go on and on, but my International Rugby Sevens experience became so much nicer after the fantabulous service from Ryan and Co!
