“Great location right by the water!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2008

I stayed here for 2 nights - one was on a weeknight and the other on a weekend.

The best 2 things about this hotel were it's close location to the Marina/Cruise Ship Terminal and the service. The rest was kind of...average.

Since the hotel was close to the water it also was close to the airport. You could hear airplane noise all day and night, but I got used to it pretty fast. You could also hear the trolley/Amtrak when it went by from time to time.

The hotel itself was fairly clean, but the bed was average and the bathroom was the same size as the bedroom. Not necessary I think - although it would be excellent for wheelchair accessible guests - as it was a room on the ground floor and had a good set up.

The service at the front desk was excellent - always friendly and helpful.

Make sure to check your rates though - on my weekend night I was charged a higher rate and then the next weekend night I wanted to see if I could get cheaper so I went down the street to the Pacific Inn - they told me they could not give me a good rate, but they could give me a good rate back at the Marina Inn. It wasn't exactly what I was wanting to hear because I had just been charged $20+ more at the hotel the night before. I guess it pays to bargain - because these hotels seem to reduce rates if you mention something.

so i checked online and the price said 80, i gave them a call to confirm and the indian man said 89 and i told him online said 80 so he said "ok u come over now, i give u discount". so me and my boyfriend drove over there and the price went up to 109, he said "because u dont give me credit card number i dont hold room for u, now price is 109" we walked out and soon enough he chased after us and said "ok i give u for 85". so we decided to stay and regretted it as soon as we entered the room. they had roaches running down the bathroom curtains, the bed sheets had burnt holes thru them, the towels looked dirty, the bathroom super small. shower filled with pee stains and tiles coming out, and noise throughout the whole night cuz of the train and traffic. absolutely the worst place ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Originally I had booked two rooms at a sister-motel, Point Loma Inn. About 1 month before visiting San Diego I had a change of plans and canceled one of the rooms. When we got to San Diego we were informed that they had overbooked the Point Loma Inn and would we go to their other motel, Marina Inn & Suites. We debated as we had chosen Point Loma Inn because it was close to our evening destination. We eventually agreed and were sent to the Marina Inn. When we got there they put us in this room, in the very back, bottom floor, next to the laundry room and a lovely view of a dying tree and a nearly vacant lot full of garbage. Although the room itself was adequate, well, the sound of the trains rumbling past in the middle of the night was not exactly my idea of a good time. Oh, and if you're with a family, watch out, Little Italy is not as pleasant as it sounds - in fact, it's pretty much the tail-end of the porno district.

So, IF you book at Point Loma Inn and they tell you they overbooked and want to send you to their other motel, JUST SAY NO!

We were able to book last minute reservations because of a totally unacceptable reservation at a different motel. The desk staff was lovely and so very nice to us. The rooms were clean, freshly painted, and had plenty of towels. There were too few parking places which was a problem for us. We would have liked to have a pool on site but the Pacifica pool worked in a pinch. The breakfast was very skimpy not what I consider a continental breakfast.. We also had power outages in the morning while we tried to get ready. Just not enough power to go around. I'd go back but I wouldn't take all the grandkids and their parents with us.

The rooms were pretty small if you plan to be inside for a long period of time. It's perfect for crashing after drinking all day at the beach and then crashing back again after a long night partying in dowtown. It's close to everything!

Perfect for JUST crashing!

The rate I paid was much lower than listed on this site, for some reason. I paid less than $80.

I was pleasantly surprised at the Marina Inn based on some of the reviews here. The rooms were clean and well-lit, lots of sun, overall a positive feeling when I first got there. The room, while small, was adequate and very workable. Lots of good television stations and the shower and hot water situation was great. (The bathroom in my room was huge! Very nice.)

However, it is a noisy location. I was concerned about the airport noise, but that wasn't a problem. The hotel is near the landing path, so the throttles are low and not noisy.

The noise problem was with the traffic on Pacific Highway and adjacent streets. The train tracks are also right behind the properyt, but they didn't seem to run the noisy trains after about 10:00 p.m.

I brought ear plugs, and those, with the room fan on high, drowned out the noise so that I got a good night's sleep. No complaints about that, but beware!

The other thing to note is that they 'nickel and dime' you to death. Don't use the phone (all calls are charged, even credit card calls and 1-800 calls). Make sure you don't drink the bottled water, it's like $2.50 a bottle. Don't use the safe in the room, there is a charge for that!!!

Luckily, there is no charge for watching TV or using the shower.

I did have a problem with the TV remote, but since I know how to re-program universal remotes, I was able to reset mine.

I would definitely stay again, it's right near the bus line and the trolley system (since I didn't have a car). Lots within walking distance.

Stayed here while attending the ESRI conference. Room was clean and comfortable. Although they put me in a room right next to the highway, the traffic noise was tolerable. TV was old and the screen was scratched, but I didn't really use it that much. Tram stop was not too far. No complaints, but this is not more than a basic "place to sleep" motel.
