“Nice hotel very close to airport”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

I stayed at this hotel for a few days in February. The hotel is right across the street from the airport and a few blocks away for the airport rental car companies. The rooms seem to have been updated recently and the view (suggest a room facing the marina not the airport) is quite nice. The restaurants are okay, the Starwood club is excellent, and the staff are great. Only negative is that it is a ten minute cab ride to downtown or the gas light district.

Room Tip: Get a room facing marina

We spent 4 nights here during a business conference. Even though we had well over 700 people in our group, everything went off without a hitch. The rooms have great views as others have mentioned, and the location is perfect. I did not find it to be very noisy at all and could barely hear the airport even when planes were visibly passing overhead. There are only outdoor pools here, so on chilly days don't expect to swim comfortably. Our room was smallish but adequate, very clean, tastefully decorated and well maintained. Mattresses and pillows are very, very soft and maybe a bit too soft for some sleepers. There is no mini fridge. Room service is available. The restaurants were mediocre and the higher end restaurant was overpriced for the quality of food served. The sandwiches we ordered from Quinn's were nearly inedible but the fries were very good. The additional $11-$18 per night charge for wireless internet in your room is absolutely crazy, especially for a hotel in this price range, with a rack rate in the $200+ per night range your in-room internet should be included. However, if you get a great deal here, take it - overall it is an excellent hotel. I would definitely return for the right price.

We booked this hotel through Priceline name your own price and only paid $75 per night. Needless to say, for $75, we weren't expecting much. We were absolutely blown away with the quality, water views, room and customer service at this hotel. Would def stay there again.

My husband and I were there for a business trip with his company. We had wonderful service. Trina who worked in the gym/spa area was VERY friendly, assertive and welcoming. The price for a bottle of water or sunscreen ourtrageous. If they charged less they would sell more in my opinion especially for such simple amenities. Thank you again for the service~

Room Tip: Get a bay view~

Wonderful hotel...service friendly and attentive. Lovely waterfront location AND 5 minutes from the airport, so the best of both worlds. Free shuttle to the airport. Great place for runners as there is a waterfront path toward downtown/convention/gaslight district.

Room Tip: Facing the water

I was there on a recent business trip and I was pleasantly surprised the the amenities and the service of the staff. I stayed in the Marina Tower. I had a nice view of the Marina. It was great watching the sunset each night. The hotel is situated very close to the airport and only a few miles away from the Gaslamp District. The room was clean and comfortable. I would recommed ordering the crab cakes at the bar by the lobby. They were wonderful.

I recently stayed in the Bay tower of the Sheraton Hotel and Marina. While it has a smaller lobby, it offers larger balconies, slightly larger rooms and incredible views of the bay (front of hotel) or the marina (back of hotel - this is where you see the sunrise!). The hotel is on the Marina which is lovely and literally across the street from the bay where you can sit on a bench and watch ships, go for a jog or interact with locals who come there for the excellent fishing.
The rooms offered a modern feel and were very quiet despite being significantly booked. The bed was not as comfortable as I would've liked but the incredibly soft pillows made up for it!

They have shuttle service to the airport which is only a short distance away (yes you can hear the planes sometimes) and they can call a taxi for you if you wish to venture to dowtown or old town which are both very close ($10-$15 for cabfare). They do charge $22 for overnight parking which is disappointing if you are choosing to drive a vehicle here.
Ask staff for recommendations for meals...too pricey at the hotel and its not very good. I recommend Hash House ($15 per person)for breakfast if you can drive!

Room Tip: The higher the better as far as noise. Bay tower offers better views and bigger rooms - worth the e...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
San Diego has established itself as a destination featuring world class spirit with genuine warmth. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina offers an authentic San Diego experience. Iconic sunsets and a waterfront destination…it’s comfortably upscale without pretense. As an architectural cornerstone positioned at the point of entry into the city - by air or sea - the imposing facade of the hotel reflects an architectural design inspired by the region’s naval influence. In the mid 1800s, city leaders realized the potential of the San Diego Bay and, with the anticipation of the opening of the Panama Canal, the importance of improving the harbor for commerce. Significant modifications were needed to the Bay to accommodate large ships. As a result, Harbor and Shelter Island were developed, as well as much of the land beneath the San Diego International airport. Today’s San Diego has evolved into a place to meet and share inspiration. Overlooking the scenic San Diego Bay and a private marina, the hotel is a place where San Diego soul and contemporary style go hand and hand. A Bayside resort with urban accessibility, the hotel is a waterfront hub connecting you to the destination’s renowned attractions. Ideally located within easy reach, the historic Liberty Station, the waterfront districts of Point Loma, the energy of Little Italy and the Gaslamp Quarter offer convenient, lively dining and entertainment venues. Amongst exquisite lifestyle decor and a relaxing atmosphere, the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina reflects a perfect haven for the active lifestyle that is woven deep into the region’s DNA. There are waterside fire pits and three pools - each with a unique personality. But most importantly, the hotel is designed to make best use of San Diego’s average 72 degree year-round sunny weather. Sitting on the dock of the Bay, the hotel offers access to water sport rentals and sailing tours to provide an extraordinary perspective of San Diego. Along with the diversity that found home in San Diego, the intense energy that the destination acquired offers a remarkably unique experience. Naturally, this energy worked its way into the foundation of the hotel. From the moment of arrival, the hotel is designed to offer a scenic environment with unmatched flexibility and capability. The nautically inspired guest rooms and suites come with an elegant array of amenities and social enabling conveniences. Social travelers seeking something astonishing can choose one of the spacious and well equipped suites for a unique and luxurious home away from home. Reflecting the needs of the world’s social traveler, a great hotel is built with much more than awe-inspiring design. The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina enlists a warm, friendly and tenured staff that is connected to the urban energy of downtown San Diego. ... more   less
