“Love this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

From the courtesy of the hotel staff at booking to the complimentary breakfast (with WAFFLES!)-this is the place to stay in Old Town. The price is unbelievably inexpensive for what you get - a clean room with first class linens, comfortable beds, spacious bathrooms ( toilet, shower and sink in separate area from sink/vanity), good water pressure, flat-screen TVs, fridge, microwave and coffee pot. We stay here frequently during football season so we can take the trolley (RIGHT across the street) to the stadium and don't have to worry about driving or parking. Now a lot of our friends have stayed here, too. They have a discount for AAA members. We love Anna and Cecily! They treat us like family!

Room Tip: We ask for a room in the back on the 3rd floor so we're away from the street and transportation...

Dear Valued Guest,
Thank you for choosing the Old Town Inn once again; we are honored to receive your wonderful review! It was a pleasure having you as our guest, and we are very proud to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us.
I am also very happy to hear that you found our rooms affordable and comfortable. We always keep our rates very competitive, so it’s great to hear when our guests save! We have also recently updated our rooms with new granite countertops, flat screens (as you mentioned), better linens, pillows and more, with more to come as well. Thank you for noticing! Our company culture is all about providing a clean room, an affordable price, and quality that goes above and beyond our two star rating, along with great customer service. We pride ourselves in keeping our guests happy and feeling at home.
Thank you for recommending us to your friends; being a small, independently owned hotel, our only advertising is through word of mouth, so your recommendations are truly appreciated.
Once more, thank you for your kind words, and for repeatedly staying at the Old Town Inn! We are honored to have you and your friends as our guests, and we hope to become your home away from home in San Diego. We look forward to your next visit!

The location of this hotel is deceiving. What looks to be situated in an industrial area turns out to be in a perfect location and a heartbeat from everything. Staff were wonderful, nice, helpful and so accomodating. The first room we were booked into had a musty smell and before we could say 'this smells off ' Laura was on the phone relocating us to another informing us the carpets had just been cleaned - now that's service, we were impressed. We happened to meet our neighbours first night and were so politely told to keep the noise down, even though just talking and I understood why over the next few nights, as the hotel still has old world charm with chatting & heavy feet being heard on the odd occasion from neighbouring units at night - but don't let this deter you. The rooms were clean and even though we needed a roll out bed to accommodate us all, our family of 5 (3 grown children) lived comfortably. Free DVD's, free parking and the breakfast catered for all our taste buds.Even though there were only 2 washing machines this wasn't an issue. Level 2 has ice & vending machine near stair well & the girls enjoyed the heated pool. Hotel is across the road from Old Town, which is wonderful and we felt safe walking to and from ,a block away from the shops and en route to the city - couldn't have picked a better spot for our family vacation in San Diego. We wouldn't hesitate to visit again.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review of the Old Town Inn! We truly appreciate your compliments, and are so glad to know that you and your family had such an enjoyable time with us. It’s great to hear that although you have a big family, our room was comfortable for you.

Here at the Old Town Inn, we believe it is very important to provide those simple amenities that our guests need, and we believe in providing them for free. At a fancier or more expensive hotel, guests may have to pay for things like Wi-Fi, parking, and movies. We feel that there is no need to charge our guests for these simple things, and we are very glad to hear that you enjoyed these amenities. We love it when our guests take advantage of things like our DVD collection, breakfast, and pool; thank you for mentioning these amenities in your review.

We also want to thank you for explaining our location so well. We are located in a slightly industrial area, which may throw our guests off at first. However, we do love our location, and we’re so glad you did too. The owner likes to joke that we are “nowhere but minutes to everywhere!”, and this is very true. The great benefit to our location is that you can easily and quickly get to many famous San Diego attractions; we are less than 3 miles to the airport and less than 10 minutes driving time to Balboa Park and the Zoo. Also, you can walk to the San Diego Bus and Trolley Station, making it easy to get around town if you don’t have a car.

Our company culture is to provide great customer service, cleanliness, and value. We hope that you enjoyed all of these qualities during your stay. Once again, thank you for sharing your experience on TripAdvisor, we greatly appreciate the feedback.

We hope to see you and your family again the next time you visit San Diego. It was a pleasure to serve you!

We booked this hotel due to the great reviews found here on Trip Advisor. We were not disappointed! Check in was a breeze. Our room was clean and nicely decorated. The photos did not do it justice. The next morning we enjoyed our complimentary juice and waffles. We will most definitely be staying here each time we visit San Diego.

We stayed here for three nights for our honeymoon and I could not be happier.

The staff are very helpful, the breakfast great and the facilities really good. I even managed to do a full load of washing for £2 which was great. The rooms are really spacious and you can rent a DVD, free of charge, if you are in the mood to watch a movie.

You are less than 5 minutes to the metro line where you can catch the the trolley to the gas lamp quarter and the other main places. Beyond the trolley stop is the Old Town which was great for going out for dinner. The hotel could not be in a better place!

If you have a car you can easily drive to Sports Arena Boulevard where you can find the famous Phil's BBQ as featured on Man vs Food!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough!!

Dear Valued Guest,
Wow! Thank you for the amazing review! We truly appreciate your feedback and compliments. I am so happy that the Old Town Inn was up to your expectations, especially since you were on your honeymoon, a very special time. Also, congratulations are in order! We wish you and your husband a long and happy marriage!
I am so glad to hear that our location was convenient for you. As you mentioned in your review, the Old Town Trolley station is just a short walk across the street, and beyond that, Old Town and its many restaurants and attractions. Though being so centrally located has its many advantages, the noise of Pacific Highway may cause an issue to some, depending on what noise level the guest is used to at home. There is also the issue of our slightly industrial location. I am very glad to know that this was not a bother for you, because from time to time we get reviews concerning our industrial surroundings. For that reason, we do our best to try and familiarize our future guests with what the area immediately surrounding our property is like. I will freely admit that it might not be what people are used to, but the majority of our guests, like yourself, enjoy the convenience of our property – easy access to the transit center, walk to Old Town, and just a few miles from Sea World, the Zoo, the Beaches, and Downtown. Our owner likes to joke that “we are nowhere, but we’re right next door to everywhere.”
It’s great to hear that you took the essential trip to the famous Phil’s BBQ! I absolutely love that place, its old spot used to be walking distance from my house. That was when Phil’s was just another small (but much loved) BBQ place in the area. Since then the place has blown up, moved to Sports Arena, has crazy long lines, and I’m still a huge fan.
Thank you again for your review, and for choosing the Old Town Inn; I can’t thank you enough for your kind words and your recommendation! Once more, I and everyone here at the Old Town Inn would like to congratulate you, and wish you and your husband a beautiful and wonderful marriage. It was a pleasure to have you as our guests, and we hope to see you again in the future!

This is a great hotel ,five-fifteen minutes away from old town , Sea world , sea port village, little Italy . The Breakfast was basic but very good and the rooms were very clean.
We had a really good four days staying there and would definately stay there again if we come to visit

Room Tip: Choose or ask for a room that is far away from the road and you won't hear any noise

Came here for a family wedding. Although I never would have stayed here on my own, it was fine for our purposes, as we had a large number of family staying. It was very inexpensive, so all could afford it. Several people did not rent cars and really liked that they could easily walk to many restaurants. We had over 12 of us ordering take-out one evening, and they let us use the breakfast room which was very nice. They were very accommodating. The Inn is old and rooms are large enough, but the shower heads are ridiculously low. I had to bend way over to wash my hair! I'm 5'10", the shower head came to my upper chest. My taller husband, sons and brothers had an even harder time! The mattresses are much too soft, and the sheets do not stay tucked in. The pool area was nice, but we had a screaming 2-3 year old there the entire time we were.....not very restful! We left and went to the beach instead. So, this was great for a group, but next time I go, I'll pay more to get more.

My wife and I stayed here for a week having read the reports on trip adviser. On arrival we were met by Cecily and Rebbeca who were very helpful.Having never been to an American Football game before I wanted to go and see the Chargers. They got the number for the Qualcom Stadium to see if there where any tickets left on sale so I didn't waste my journey. They also gave us detailed information as to how to get around the area.
Our room itself was spacious and clean but a little dated,it was also very dimly lit.We had the lift directly outside our room which blocked the natural sunlight so this would have had some affect. There was also some noise from the road that runs alongside.
The pool is in a nice setting with sun loungers and towels provided, some guests thought the pool was cold, I must admit I didn't and found it quite refreshing.
If like me,you find driving a chore on holiday, this place is well situated for getting around with the bus/train service a 3-4 mins walk and also just a little further to the Old Town itself.
While the hotel is not 5 star it is well worth the ratings given as it has everything you need,if I was to make a suggestion I would have loved it to have a bar so that you can have a drink and a chat with other travellers in the evening as the hotel seems to be very popular so book early if you chose to stay here, I certainly will should I visit San Diego again.
By the way we had a great day out watching the Chargers win 31-10.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the road at the front.
