I was very weary about booking this hotel. Price was right for a location on the beach but the reviews were mixed. Since the manager responded to most of the posts on TripAdvisor, I decided we would go.
This was a good hotel for our family which includes three kids under age 7.
They offered a continental breakfast which includes waffles, oatmeal, bagels, cereal, fruit, hard boiled eggs. For our family, this is perfect. We are right on the beach. We paid for a partial view and paid less than $200 per night.
We used the underground parking for $10 per night. We were close to many restaurants and stores such as a Ralph's and CVS. We are also a short drive to Torrey Pines, La Jolla (seal beach), Coronado Island and the San Diego Zoo. It took less than 30 minutes to get to all of these places. San Diego International is close, as well. We came downn from Universal Studios and that was a 2 hour drive. Not bad considering the traffic by LA.
You are next to a couple of bars. During Sunday, the bar right next door was very loud with their music. It did end by nine. We just kept the fan on in our room. My in-laws' room was right across from the bar. It probably was best to shut the windows in the hallway to drown out some of the loud music. I feel sorry for the staff as they have to listen to the loud music.
The staff was very friendly. They were great to my father-in-law and assisted with getting him a motorized wheelchair delivered to our hotel.
I know some people posted about the homeless people. They do not harm anyone. I saw homeless people in the pricier areas such as LaJolla and Coronado. We took our kids to LA and they saw all the "interesting people" that kept coming up to us asking if we want to pose for a picture with them or listen to their CD.
There is a firestation next door but we never heard any sirens while sleeping. We did sleep with the windows open and kept the fans on.
Yes, the decor is outdated but so is my basement that has carpet on the walls. As the manager commented in other posts, they will be updating the hotel.
Lobby was great and so was the pool. It was also nice that they had the toys for the kids to play on the beach as I would never pack buckets and shovels.
I also feel this is a great hotel for people wanting to party as the bars are nearby. However, my husband found a great bar to watch the Chicago Bears game. Lots of Bears fan.
We were in by night time as we traveled with small kids. I did see families but because I think it was fall there was not as many families.
Rooms were clean but could use more cleaning as the lamps were dusty and there were spill stains on the wall and carpet.
I would definitely stay here again. For the pricing and to be on the beach, it was worth it. My in-laws also enjoyed the place. I stayed on Mission Beach and felt this area had more to offer. Guests at the hotel were nice and the staff was great!!

We do believe we provide the most bang for the buck in Pacific Beach, especially when families like yours take advantage of our complimentary amenities and services. The continental breakfast and beach toys, for example, are two services no other hotel in the area offers!
We're also very happy to hear our location worked out so perfectly for your explorations around greater San Diego. Not only are we on the beach and within walking distance of shopping, restaurants, and bars, but we're centrally located in San Diego county so that farthest you'll have to drive to get to any attraction is about 35 minutes. We're 5 minutes from SeaWorld, 15 minutes from the airport, and 20 minutes from the Zoo and Gaslamp District!
Thank you again for all the kind words, we hope to see you again in the future! Make sure you're signed up for our newsletter to receive returning-guest specials and discounts.
