“Stay here for the convenient location - Not the cleanliness”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

Came to town for the Broncos/Chargers game and the one thing this hotel has going for it, is the convenience factor...down the street from Qualcomm, lots of restaraunts nearby, and a trolley stop a short walk from the front desk. My interactions with the staff were pretty sparse, but the guy at the coffee bar Sunday morning was outstanding, and gave great customer service. Three stars for that.

The downside, and I was really unhappy with this aspect, and I can't believe how much I paid for this room. It was dirty...flat out dirty. Walked into the room and the first thing I notice is the overwhelming stench of musty, dirty gym socks. Pretty sure the carpet got wet at some point, and the room wasn't properly dried. Bathroom counter and fixtures were filfthy, there was a long black hair on the bathroom counter (I'm a redhead) and nothing was really wiped down. At some point this room had construction done it, as evidenced by the layer of white drywall dust that covered every surface in the bathroom and closet. The forced air filter had to be changed before I would even consider staying in this room, because after the dirty gym sock smell, the next thing I noticed was the thick layers of dust covering the filter cover. The sliding door to the balcony was screwed closed, so the engineer had to come remove it so we could open the door. When the engineer came to open the door and change the filter, he wiped all the dust from the filter cover into the carpet, and never came back with a vacuum to clean it up.

I'm sure every hotel in America hates Anthony Melchiorri and Hotel Impossible because I definitely view a room with a more critical eye than I used to. But in this case, I didn't have to go looking for the dirt, it was right there in the open.

For the record, some of the issues were resolved before we went out for the evening, but for the price I was paying for a room at the Marriott, I expect the room to be clean and ready upon check-in.

Also, there is plenty of parking, but if you have a large vehicle, the spaces are pretty small and you end up having to take two spots.

I stayed recently for business, across the street. Basic Marriott with very pleasant staff. I'm Marriott Gold and stayed there last year too. I was a little disappointed in the outdoor seating off the restaurant -- no more couches, just standard umbrella tables, not really conducive to evening relaxation. The rooms are huge and very clean but a little dated. Concierge lounge is adequate but small. You'll bump into each other at peak breakfast times. As others noted, proximity to the light rail is a huge plus. Walls are pretty thin so beware of noisy neighbors and large events.

Room Tip: higher floors are less noisy.

Well cared for Hotel, pleasure to stay at. My third stay was the best, and I have stayed at all the other large chain properties for comparison. Very courteous and helpful staff . Perfect place for the family vacation, close to all the San Diego vacation destinations. Counter staff are friendly and very efficient. This IS the best hotel in the area.

Room Tip: All 3 rooms I have stayed in were excellent

This Marriott is typical of a standard Marriott - nothing special except for the great location two trolley (light rail) stops from the Qualcomm. If you are going to a Charger game, this is the place to stay. They offer an excellent breakfast buffet. The staff were universally friendly and helpful. The rooms are good size and beds very comfortable. The bathroom has a rain shower head but was small and uninspiring otherwise. Our room seemed musty and strangely all the lights were unplugged and some of the sockets didn't seem to work. If you are visiting San Diego, I would probably chose a hotel closer to downtown. A cab is at least $35 from the airport/downtown area. The trolly is very close and for $5 a day you can ride all day. It takes about 30 minutes to the Gaslamp area, however; word of caution - travel during peak hours. We had several riders who were down on their luck and frankly created some scary situations.

The hotel is clean and the room is big and clean. It is only 5 mins walk to the trolley station and three stops away from the fashion valley mall. The mission valley mall is also only one trolley stop away or 20 mins walk.

It is also not very far from the airport, which is approx 15 to 20 mins drive.

The hotel has a laundry room which is very convenient for those who needs to stay at the hotel for more than a week.

Nonetheless, the walls between the rooms are a bit thin. If the guest next room speaks loudly, you can hear what he or she said.

Having experienced a number of very positive, enjoyable stays at this location, my wife and I looked forward to returning to our "Home Away From Home" for the Thanksgiving weekend. Raymond Leon, Senior Rooms Operations Manager, welcomed us back upon our arrival with a very warm and sincere greeting and handshake. Despite arriving early, our requested room on the concierge floor was available and waiting for us. Dana Valdez, Elite Loyal Ambassador, had contacted us earlier in the week to inform us that the Concierge Lounge would be closed for the holiday, but coupons for breakfast and appetizers in the DEN Restaurant on the lobby level would be extended to us for the inconvenience. Our server in the restaurant, James M., provided exceptional service for all three breakfasts we enjoyed during our stay. I loved how he anticipated our needs with positive eye contact and a great smile. A truly competent professional, he took time to assure that our meals were delivered exactly as ordered and verbally confirmed each food item. We had delicious appetizers in the bar on our last evening and found the bartender, Logan, to be an excellent conversationalist and extremely knowledgable. Both James and Logan provided a hassle-free, personalized, and totally enjoyable dining experience! Throughout our stay, Raymond Leon repeatedly reinforced that the Marriott Mission Valley location is a welcoming, caring, dependable, and high energy hotel. There is a genuine commitment of the excdptional management team and the highly professional staff members, under the direction of Rhanda Richardson, General Manager, to take pride in passionately connecting with each guest, on every stay, through flawless and relentless execution of every detail to create and keep fanatical fans of the Marriott Mission Valley location in San Diego, California!

Room Tip: Staying on the concierge floors is definitely worth the added expense :-)!

Stayed here overnight before a fishing trip to Mexico. A short drive off I-8, and close proximity to shopping and dining away from the hotel. The property is immaculate . . . well-landscaped, clean, and . . . most importantly . . . extremely friendly staff, from the valets to the front desk to the housekeepers. Beautiful pool (color-changing underwater LED lights at night) and spa with cabanas, chaise lounges under umbrellas, and well-appointed fitness center adjacent. Exceptionally spacious "standard" room (ours had two queen beds with plenty of available floor space. Plush, comfy beds and bedding. Microwave, mini-fridge, large bathroom with tub/shower enclosed separate from sink area. We were lucky enough to get a fantastic Express Deals rate on Priceline.com! I would definitely stay here again, even without the big savings!

On the downside, like virtually all San Diego area hotels (and some cheap motels, too), there is a daily parking fee on top of the room rate, so don't be surprised to find that after a couple of days, you owe about $40 more than you thought you would.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the pool.
