“Pool is great, standard rooms are lame”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013 via mobile

our first room had a closet that smelled like nasty feet and had a shower . After complaining, we got another room that was a little better, but had stained carpet. A/c not impressive. We were offered an upgrade to a room in the tower, but i felt that the $110 plus $25/day parking was enough to spend on this trip. Pool was nice and kids loved waterslides. Would have been better off going for a more reliable hotel chain with included breakfast and free parking.

Very nice room and a great location. Tad bit on the noisy side. Very nice sized rooms and bathrooms. The one lousy thing is having to pay for parking. Makes the value go from good to fair. Very modern decor.

We stayed in the cottages and loved the location which was right by the marina. The room was clean and comfortable, and the small patio opened up to the beautiful marina---a lovely site to wake up to each morning.
The cottages are a very short walk to the large pool area, and a couple dining options.
We had a great time...we relaxed by the pool, ate and drank well at the pool bar/restaurant, and had an overall rejuvinating trip.
This was a great base to access La Jolla area as well as downtown San Diego without being in the middle of both.

Room Tip: We enjoyed staying in the cottages, which were right next to the hotel tower.

I was attending a business event so had a single night stay. Fortunately the "standard" rooms were filled by the time I arrived and was "upgraded" to a "Tower" room. The room was exceptionally clean but kind of small for an "upgraded" room. The connecting door between adjoining rooms allowed for significant sound conduction such that we could hear the conversation of the gentlemen next door. The bath was functional but not extravagant. The grounds were immaculate and the pool area impressive and contained a water slide attraction that kids obviously loved. The restaurant had well presented entrees but portions were notably small. Not sure that I would return if I were "paying the bill." The hotel has lots of activities adjacent including an exercise facility. Not a subpar property but wouldn't give it a full 5 stars.

Room Tip: The standard rooms are more like "motel" venues with all exterior access.

Wow I loved this hotel. They have huge waterslides and a spectacular staff! They upgraded us to a private Villa for free and had excellent service. The food, the grounds, and rooms are above 4 stars in my opinion. I love this hyatt

Hubby and I spent our first weekend away from our almost 2-YO here, and were very happy we chose this location! We were nicely greeted by valet, walked into the nicely appointed lobby (couple of fireplaces going) and were promptly checked in (I think there were at least 4 people working the front desk, so no line). We requested a room with a view since we were celebrating, and they gave us a lovely 14th floor room with an AMAZING view of Mission Bay.

Room was big, nice little balcony with 2 chairs and a table, so we could watch the sun set. We overlooked the pool, which was very nice, and had 3 SWEET waterslides...but we didn't partake as it was a bit chilly the whole time.

Bellhop brought our luggage, chatted with us for a few, and sent up a bottle of complimentary sparkling wine because we mentioned it was an early anniversary celebration. WHAT?! He also recommended a car service, which was the same price as a cab, so when we set out to hit the town, we did so in a stretch limo! This car service has some deal with the hotel, so that was an unexpected bonus. Round trip to the Gaslamp was a bit steep - $60, but very fun and totally worth it!

Other pluses - there was a nice sitting area and decent sized flat screen (though no HD, which was a bummer), bed was comfortable with nice sheets and a feather comforter (I LOATHE those fake polyester thingys that you usually find in hotels), and it was QUIET. I heard NO hallway noise, despite the fact that there was a prom there on Saturday night, and it was Cinco de Mayo weekend. Someone else mentioned the airport - I didn't hear a single plane (though we saw many), so ignore that comment.

Only reason I didn't rate 5 stars - the shower was pretty dismal. Took forever to get hot, pressure was erratic, and the drain was so slow that there was about 3 inches of water in the tub by the time I finished my shower.

Overall, this is a nice hotel with exceptional service. It was great for a romantic getaway, but would be great with kids too (especially since the pool is so great!).

Room Tip: Ask for a bay view room!

We stayed here during Spring Break for a few nights to play in the pool and go to Sea World. Unfortunately it was quite cold that week and the pool even colder so we didn't get to do as much swimming as we wanted. But the same thing happened to us last Spring Break in Carlsbad so lesson learned: don't spend Spring Break in San Diego if you want warm weather!!
Anyway, somehow when we arrived they didn't have our reservation, it could have been our fault, and they got us into a small room the first night (Sat), then we got to move to a suite the next 2 nights which was so much nicer. We had a balcony overlooking the harbor with a lively view beyond to the ocean.
We were very close to Sea World and were a bit disappointed that there was no shuttle to take us there so we had to drive and pay to park.
Overall it was pleasant but hotel needs to heat up the pool considerably and should provide a shuttle to SW!
