“Nice surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

On vacation with my family. Loved the Chicken Pimodori. Not the cheapest place to eat breakfast but that is reflected in the food quality as well. I definitely recommend it

“So nice it could give chain restaurants a good name”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2012

We checked out the Corner Bakery in San Diego's University Towne Center mall when visiting the area near UCSD last summer. It was the perfect place for breakfast (not just baked goods, but delicious egg scrambles and a health-conscious, low-calorie cold oatmeal dish smothered with fresh berries, for example). I also liked it for snacks or light lunches. The staff is pleasant, service generally quick and the ambiance elegant and comfortable, with dark wood trim and nice roomy tables. Outside is a large terrace entirely fenced in with panels of glass, so you can relax while your bored small children can wander around safely and see what's happening in the parking lot.
Prices are reasonable -- it's easy to find a very good breakfast for $10 or less -- and we were always able to find a seat. Corner Bakery, I discovered, is part of a chain based in Texas, but even so, what more could you ask of a neighborhood bakery/restaurant.

“What you want, how you want it”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2012

At the University Towne Centre Mall (east of La Jolla, near UC-SD campus) another Coner Bakery Cafe is ready for breakfast: eggs scrambled to order (170 cal), French toast (brioche, custard with eggs and bacon is 1,190); oatmeal (160 cal); berry with yogurt (390 cal).

Nope, not a mind reader. Corner Bakery Cafe lists calories for everything.

We had the club panini with turkey, bacon and tomato but without the cheddar (so we saved 200 of the 730 calories) and the Thin Man had the California grille with zucchini, artichoke, tomatoes, pesto, spinach and provolone (600 calories). You couldn't call the filling hefty but it was tasty.

Plenty of salads: Chicken salad with apples; tuna with basil and onions, Edamame with tomatoes, peppers and onions; fruit (just 70) and mixed greens (110 and that's before the dressing?).

Pasta will take you over the line with the pesto (1,140) or the carbonara (1,190) and if you have the garlic bread, that's another 110.

Order at the counter and they deliver to your table. Outside there are heat lamps. Inside is noisy. Outside could be quiet if the Mall didn't insist on piping music everywhere. Oh well.

“A Breakfast Delight: Real Scrabbled Eggs and Great Coffee!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2012

My friend and I meet here for lunch about twice a month. But we don't eat lunch; we eat breakfast. We love the scrabbled egg dishes. There are three of them, but we always choose two of them: We usually order either the "Farmer's Scramble" with eggs scrambled with red and green bell peppers, red onions, mushrooms, potatoes, and cheddar cheese or the "All-American Scramble" with eggs served with crisp applewood smoked bacon or chicken apple sausage. Both have toast and you can substitute the potatoes for fresh fruit. The eggs are really scrambled and not the usual one flip over variety in most restaurants. The toast is barely warm most of the time and this is the only drawback., but you can request it hot. They have a "serve yourself drink bar" and the coffee is wonderful. When they try to hand you a paper cup, request the mug. . . .It's a nice big mug. .You can get a muffin and coffee for $3. It's a good bargin.
The the quality of the food is very good, but they could try and serve it hot.
