“Excellent staff and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2012

The hotel is in an excellent location for a visit to the San Diego and valley area. Very convenient to wineries and area attractions, and the coast / beach was only 20 minutes away. The staff was most accomodating and the buffet breakfast was very good each day. The hotel needs some updating (carpeting, drapes...) but is a very good value for the area.

Came to San Diego to stay for five nights for a soccer competition. The hotel was listed on the competition website as an approved hotel at, $95 per night, with a direct link from the competition website.
We got charged $128 , after three days the front desk had not solved this problem.
The hotel is in a run down state, balcony carpets worn through, a/c did not work, so called the maintenance guy, he referred us to the front desk.
Hotel keys kept malfunctioning, fridge was not able to cool the drinks.
When we spoke with the maid she said and I quote "nothing works here"
The competition will be here next year, but we will find another hotel, for our team to stay in.
Many other complaints from team members.

First, a couple of niggles: My wife and I asked several times for a "Do Not Disturb" sign for the door but never got one, so there was no way to let housekeeping know we didn't want service. Also, prior to getting in the pool one evening, we asked the front desk for towels since there were no more clean towels available at the pool. We were told clean towels would be delivered so my wife and kids and I went for a dip. Towels were never replenished, so we all had to walk, sopping wet and cold, back to our room. Parking is at a premium, so if you're not at the hotel by 9:00PM, you may have quite a walk to your room if you're fortunate enough to find a spot at all. There were two construction vehicles that took up 8 spots which was ridiculous considering the lack of spots. Other parking spots were marked "Budget" leading the law-abiding to think the spots were reserved, however, as it turns out, Budget left the premises about 5 months ago, so those spots are available. You'd think management would have remedied this by now with a little paint.

That said, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better value in the area. It is somewhat off the beaten path, but it is centrally located to many of San Diego's attractions. Additionally, the room, and hotel in general, was clean and well-appointed. Finally, the staff made it a true pleasure to stay here and made it feel very much like home. These guys work their tails off and were very warm and welcoming. Blanca, Felipe and Flor made us feel at home and should be commended for their commitment to customer service. This level of service alone will ensure we come back each time we visit the area. We got five star treatment even though the accomodations were less than five stars. In the end, that's what really mattered to us.

We stayed here recently when I was running a 1/2 marathon at the Safari Park, and it was an absolutely ideal location for us. The hotel is just off of I15, so easy access north and south. If you walk (or drive) to the other side of I15, there is plenty of access to restaurants and shops if you aren't interested in the Elephant Bar (although it looked like a nice place, we didn't try it).

The outdoor pool is small, but clean, warm and gets enough sun that it is pleasant without ROASTING. The hot tub area was also clean and there were plenty of clean pool towels. They do allow smoking at the pool and there were ashtrays in the area.

Our room (a two room suite) was clean for the most part, but we did have an issue with the air conditioning, as the room away from the balcony (on the inside hallway) was 80* and the only respite was opening the balcony doors, which had its own issues, as we were facing the bar and at closing time was pretty loud. Also, the screen was popped out so we risked bugs (which are minimal in the area most of the year) and other critters entering our room, but it was the only way to cool the room, despite a visit by maintenance. In the hotel's defense, they did offer to move us to another room, but with small children, and an early run start, moving at 10 at night wasn't appealing.

I think the property could use some updating to bring it up to HIE standards, but all-in-all, we enjoyed our stay, and the hotel staff was quite pleasant.

This Holiday Inn is showing it's age, needs some updating. Located right off I-15.
Check-In: Fast and Accurate
Room: Two Room Spa Suite
This is an older Holiday Inn that has been converted to an express. We were on the first floor and the guests above sounded like a herd of buffalo - no sound buffing at all.
Beds were the older overly firm mattresses - not the new Holiday Inn bed
with memory foam chip pillows.
The double tub with jets was very nice.
Separate Living Area with Separate Bed Room with doors that shut - Nice Feature! (T.V.s in both areas)
The price was 30% cheaper than other Holiday Inns so if price is what you are seeking this is a good choice.

Safe Travels!

Room Tip: Do not stay on first floor too noisy from guests above you - stay in top level floor. Less noise!

Free breakfast has cereal, fruit, yogurt, pastries, (very bad) eggs, sausage etc. The only problem Apart from the Elephant Bar, there's nothing within walking distance for meals, so it's best to have a car. Only delivery to the hotel is pizza.

But the staff are very friendly, comfortable rooms and beds and no complaints about the hotel itself.

We stayed here after spending 4 nights in a Holiday Inn downtown San Diego and found this far better value (free car parking, free breakfast, nicer room).

The bed was comfortable, the room airy and clean and the shower had good pressure. There was free wi-fi available also, which was useful.

We were happy here and would recommend it for anyone visiting San Diego on vacation as long as you have a car.
