“Another great stay at the Handlery Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

After a horrible experience at another Hotel Circle hotel we booked a room for 2 nights at the Handlery. This was our 5th stay there....and not our last! The hotel location is great, the staff are so nice and friendly, hotel grounds are clean and landscaped beautifully, rooms are clean, quiet, and updated. We had a room on the first floor with access to the pool area. Which was nice, but we missed the dramatic wood ceilings you get on the 2nd floor. Plenty of towels in the bathroom. Beds are comfortable and with nice linens and down comforters. Big flat screen TV. There is a newspaper delivered to your door every morning which is nice. The parking lot has pretty tight spaces but there is ample parking and is secured 24/7 (parking surcharge is $9/day). The pool is large and clean. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel! We will not risk staying anywhere else in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 2nd floor overlooking the pool area, or 1st floor if you have young kids and p...

This is a great hotel if you don't have a car. They have a great shuttle service to many of the sites. Jeff the shuttle driver was very accommodating and offered many suggestions where to go and eat. The continental breakfast was good and served by waiters. You could also order breakfast from the menu. The dinner we had was also very good. I did have difficulty getting internet while I was there. There was also dogs in the room next to us which were barking but when we called it was taken care of immediately. The staff was very friendly. There was a mall about a ten min. walk from the hotel and a transit center also by the mall. We would definitely stay there again.

Just got back from 5 nights at the Handlery Hotel. Really enjoyed it. Room was clean. Lots of fresh towels etc. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Ate at the restuarant a couple of times - food was great.
Pool area was gorgeous - clean, and water was warm! The best part was the shuttle - so convenient, that we didn't bother renting a car.
Jeff drove us to SeaWorld, the zoo, Old Town... even the mall. He found ways to pick us up early, or drop us when we changed our plans!
We read that it was noisy (it is on a highway), but we didn't notice, and certainly didn't keep us awake.
Downside - we couldn't find a way to close the door to our room quietly! And we did hear other hotel doors closing.
We'd definetely stay there again.

Room Tip: Book the shuttle as soon as you can - to get the best time.

We checked in and experienced the best front desk service of any hotel during our two-week stay in America. We were a bit early to check in, but this wasn't a problem at all. We were asked about our plans during our stay in San Diego and the young girl (I didn't get her name sorry) offered tips about sites to see, where to eat out and gave us a map and directions.

The room itself was clean. The bed was comfy. The bathroom was tidy. No complaints from us at all.

We would definitely recommend the Handlery hotel to others for value for money and location.

This hotel is in a great location although but would suggest a car to get around. Rooms were clean and of a good size. We didn't use any of the amenities as we explored San Diego. But it appears that this hotel is run at the same standard as its sister property in San Francisco.

From check-in to check-out this was a friendly, enjoyable stay. Staff were all helpful, rooms were clean & comfortable & the shuttle bus service was fantastic. The front desk staff deserve a special mention for going out of their way to arrange some of our travel details for us while we were away on an adventure trip.
An added & unexpected bonus was seeing a hummingbird nest with two chicks in a tree next to the walkway to our room!!

We stayed at the Handlery Mar 14-20, 2013. I can echo some of the comments below; the pool area is very nice and good for both families and adults. After walking around the zoo for the day I was grateful for the wonderful hot tub . We used the pool everyday because it was so clean, the water was warm, and the space was so nice. They have nice deck chairs not those cheap white plastic ones. The front desk staff were very helpful and polite. Everything we asked about we were given a marked map and good instructions. The driver Jeff who took us to and from in the shuttle to San Diego attractions was excellent, friendly and very accommodating. The hotel has car seats if you require (we didn't but we saw others that did). We ate in the restaurant a few times, both the food and the service was good. We had different waiters and they were all good. We didn't have breakfast there but heard from other guests it was good and the portions were huge. On Monday there was $5 burger and $3 beer night which we went to and it was great. The hotel is walking distance (12 min) to Fashion Mall and to the trolley system that can take you to Little Italy, other malls, etc for $2.50.

Our room looked just like the pictures on their website, there was a laundry room (which I needed!), ice machine, and in our room a bar fridge, coffee machine, a 36" flat screen TV. We really didn't need anything else. Our room was clean, quiet, and had private outdoor seating area. We didn't hear anything from outside our room at all and I am a very light sleeper. Only in the hallway could I hear kids in other rooms.

We had 3 computers in our room and had no issues with the wireless at all. Our fridge worked fine. We left everything unlocked in our room, iphones, ipads, laptops, alcohol, merchandise we bought, cash and NOTHING was stolen. I wasn't even concerned about anything going missing. My only complaint was that our room was a tad small but that is what we booked so our fault not the hotels. Also, we had a room with 2 double beds and the beds were not very big, it was hard to sleep 2 adults to one double bed and we are not tall or big.

I really don't understand any of the negative complaints on this website about this hotel, I'd recommend staying here. Every other hotel guest we encountered was as happy as we were will the hotel and the hotel staff and service. It's not a 5 star but it's very clean, comfortable, and good value.

Room Tip: You should ask for what you want, we asked for quiet and got a quiet area. I had to rate Spa above...
