I stayed at the Embassy Suites La Jolla during a workweek in August 2005. Overall I was pleased with my stay, and if I ever get back down this way again, I will stay here.

Check-in was during the evening rush, not too fast and not too slow. My Hilton HHonors Gold status finally paid off as I was assigned to a huge corner suite on the 10th floor (which is their HHonors floor). I have no complaints about the room. It was clean and quiet in there. It was big enough that I could host a workgroup of six for a breakout session during one of the days we met. There was wireless internet access in the room for $9.95/day. It tended to bog down during peak periods, but was still much better than dialup.

The exercise room is on the lobby level, off to the side of the pool. It was well equipped with three treadmills and three bikes, plus a stairclimber or two. Adjacent to the University Town Center across La Jolla Village Drive, there is a 24-Hour Fitness facility for those who want more of a weight workout. I did not check to see if the hotel gives out passes to this gym, but it would be nice if they did. Speaking of the University Town Center, it was quite convenient to walk over there for lunch and grab a quick bite at one of the many fast food vendors. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant adjacent to the mall, Cozymel's, and for a chain it was quite good - and fast, too.

Laundry facilities are in the ice-and-vending area on floors 2 through 5. There is no charge to use the washers and dryers; bring your own soap and fabric softener for a completely free experience!

Parking is $12 a day, as previously reported. Make sure you get a parking card when you check in, I didn't and had to pay the fee when I left the lot. Not a big hassle but just something to remember.

My husband and I went to La Jolla, CA (just outside San Diego) on July 19th for 3 nights. Overall our impression of the Embassy Suites and the La Jolla area was just mediocre. The Embassy Suites is located in the city part of La Jolla and is just under 10 minutes to the beach. The hotel is pretty and the lobby is nice. The rooms were decorated okay- they could use a little updating. Overall, we felt the hotel was trying to take you for all they could get. Parking was high at $12 a day, the TV had very few channels but plenty of pay per view options. The TV was incapable of taking a portable DVD hookup so you could not watch your own movies. High speed internet was not free and the LAN lines were old and you got dropped frequently (plus they charge you after 60 minutes on an 800 call). The PF Changs right outside and the mall across the street were both nice. The room service was good (but don't order the pizza- it was pretty bad), and the exercise room and sauna were nice. They stop serving breakfast at 9am which did not work well for us since we like to sleep in. So we never took advantage of it. The beaches in La Jolla are not great in our opinion. The waves were good but the sand was not and the area around the beach was not overly impressive. We will not go back to this hotel or this area again.

Recently stayed at the Embassy Suites during a visit to San Diego. The location was great - just north of San Diego and south of Del Mar with easy access to major highways and thoroughfares. The rooms were average size and decor for Embassy Suites. Very clean and pretty quiet considering the open air lobby. Would stay here again.

I recently stayed at the Embassy Suites La Jolla with my wife and two kids, ages 4 and 1. We had a great stay and found the suite setup to be perfect for children. There is ample room in the living room for a crib along with the pullout sofa. The hotel was very clean, the staff friendly and attentive. I did not have any of the aforementioned trouble with the parking lot. I always found a parking space, although sometimes it was on the top level. The buffet breakfast was great and you can't argue with the price. There was a wide selection so even my picky kids found something they wanted to eat. The hotel is very conveniently located to I-5 and I-805 and is about 15-20 minutes north of downtown. Also, there is a mall right across the street with many restaurant options. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
