I stayed at the Embassy Suites La Jolla during a workweek in August 2005. Overall I was pleased with my stay, and if I ever get back down this way again, I will stay here.
Check-in was during the evening rush, not too fast and not too slow. My Hilton HHonors Gold status finally paid off as I was assigned to a huge corner suite on the 10th floor (which is their HHonors floor). I have no complaints about the room. It was clean and quiet in there. It was big enough that I could host a workgroup of six for a breakout session during one of the days we met. There was wireless internet access in the room for $9.95/day. It tended to bog down during peak periods, but was still much better than dialup.
The exercise room is on the lobby level, off to the side of the pool. It was well equipped with three treadmills and three bikes, plus a stairclimber or two. Adjacent to the University Town Center across La Jolla Village Drive, there is a 24-Hour Fitness facility for those who want more of a weight workout. I did not check to see if the hotel gives out passes to this gym, but it would be nice if they did. Speaking of the University Town Center, it was quite convenient to walk over there for lunch and grab a quick bite at one of the many fast food vendors. We had dinner at a Mexican restaurant adjacent to the mall, Cozymel's, and for a chain it was quite good - and fast, too.
Laundry facilities are in the ice-and-vending area on floors 2 through 5. There is no charge to use the washers and dryers; bring your own soap and fabric softener for a completely free experience!
Parking is $12 a day, as previously reported. Make sure you get a parking card when you check in, I didn't and had to pay the fee when I left the lot. Not a big hassle but just something to remember.
