“Great Deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 12, 2012

A great location, a very reasonable cost and dynamite views. You really can't beat this place for a family vacation hotel. Sure - it lacks a bit of panache, and it is by no means a luxury hotel; but it is a solid place to stay with little kids and offers great access to all of the wonderful San Diego sites and sounds.

My wife came on a business trip and decided to find a place that would allow us to have a "suite" for me to work in during the day (as I telecommute for a company based on the east coast). In addition, we always business travel with my in-laws. This allows our 2.5 year old to come along and play with Grandma and Grandpa during the day. The Embassy Suites is the best location for such a family adventure.

The staff at the hotel are very customer sensitive and amazingly well trained. Everyone - from the valet staff to the front desk staff - was so nice and accommodating. We asked for a room change after the first night and the front desk was really great.

Be certain to ask for an upper floor (10-12) room and a room facing the bay - preferably facing the Coronado Bridge. This is a spectacular view. A word of caution - if you ask for a room directly facing the Bridge - there is a very good chance you will be across from the elevators. This can be really loud and a bit unnerving (with the large windows facing into the atrium). As such, split the difference and get a corner room (SW corner) or a westerly facing room in the middle of the floor that offers great sunset views and harbor vistas.

“Excellent location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

We chose this hotel because of the location, and it did not disappoint! We were steps away from the USS Midway (which we were planning to see), and were pleasantly surprised by the Promenade along the Harbor, which was just across the street. We utilised room service twice, and would have to say the quality of the room service (Pacific Fish Company) was above average for most hotels. Valet Parking - positives and negatives there. The price was in-line with most other hotels, but the fact that Valet was the only option was disappointing as I believe they park the cars in the same building, just around the corner. On a positve note, the Valet was very efficient, and we never had to wait for our vehicle, especially when calling ahead.

Room Tip: Spend a little extra and request a high floor room,Harbor view, with a balcony - it's great to s...

“2nd Time and Still Very Good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2012

We stayed here last year and decided to stay again as we had a good experience. We are a family of 2 adults and a 2 year old. We like having a separate living room area so we can have our son in another room for a more peaceful nights sleep. The rooms are huge and well equipped - the only complaint about the rooms is that the decor is very drab - lots of brown.

The breakfast is great and it's nice to find somewhere that includes breakfast in the price. There is a great selection including a cooked breakfast and cereals, yoghurts, breads etc. A bigger selection of fruit would have been appreciated, but then we were in the minority. Most people were eating the fried food (and lots of it)! The managers reception in the evening is also a nice touch.

Check in and out was easy enough and the valet parking was straight forward. Yes it is expensive, but can anyone tell me where you can find it cheaper in a location like this? The location of this hotel is perfect. It's right next to Sea Port village and it's a few blocks walk to the Gaslamp area. We didn't want to be in the middle of it all and staying somewhere a bit quieter was appreciated.

The only real complaint was the booking process. I was shopping around to get the best price, and phoned up the hotel direct. The woman told me that if I booked directly with them they would be able to guarantee a cot for my son, whereas if we booked through a 3rd party, they could only request it and not guarantee it. So we booked direct and then when the email confirmation came through, it said a cot had been requested but it wasn't guaranteed. When I phoned back I was told that they couldn't guarantee them (which is not ideal when you're flying from the UK and can't bring one with you). The manager though did sort everything out for us though, and upgraded our room by way of an apology, so great on customer service. We will be back if we're in San Diego again.

“Valet Parking Rip Off”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

$29 for valet parking only?! Your standard ES, with good location. Manager's reception--seen better (snack-wise), seen worse. Drinks--2-3 different beers on tap--good. Breakfast--inconsistent--some mornings just had line cook and the wait was out the dining area into the lobby--UNSAT! Put items on the buffet line EVERY DAY!

Room Tip: Rooms facing bay have great views but get hot in the pm when sun faces.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to share your thoughts. I am delighted to know that you enjoyed our Manager’s reception and were pleased with the selection of complimentary beverages we offer our guests. I am happy to know that you appreciated our convenient location in downtown San Diego and within walking distance to Seaport Village, the USS Midway, and the Gaslamp Quarter full of a variety of shops and restaurants. I am sincerely sorry that during our complimentary breakfast buffet you found some inconsistencies with the level of service and attentiveness. Since our breakfast buffet is vast and delicious, it can get busy from time to time during peak breakfast hours. I will be sure to relay your feedback to our Director of Food and Beverage to see what we can do to fine tune our breakfast service and accessibility. I am also very sorry that the valet parking fee was higher than you would have liked, but because of our location right on Harbor Drive and within the downtown area, we are only able to provide our guests with valet parking. However, in providing valet parking, our guests get convenience and easy accessibility to the hotel at a price comparable to other hotels and parking facilities in the area. Thank you for your feedback and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

“Best value for your dollar”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Let me start off by stating that I'm a sucker for suites since my 2 kids were born. Any hotel that gives me a separate bedroom from living area is a major plus and it doesn't hurt that they offer free hot breakfast and manager's reception in the evening.

I booked 2 rooms at the hotel, 1 for my parents who were traveling with us and 1 for my family. The hotel was able to get us rooms next to each other but in order to have a joining door, we both had to get king bed rooms, which was no good for us since we have 2 kids. Ended up both getting 2 queen beds and they gave us the top floor of the hotel with a view of both the city and the harbor.

The rooms were nicely furbished, clean, yet a bit dated. Won't ding them for it but they should at least paint it to hide some of the scratches and dents in them. It's a pretty standard Embassy Suites room with a TV in both rooms and bathroom that is big. We ordered some extra towels and the staff was up in our room in 5 minutes with a stack of towels to my wife's liking.

Breakfast was good with not much waiting and there were plenty of tables for seating. Manager's reception was also very good with the staff constantly restocking the drinks and the snacks but be aware that they do shut it down right on the dot. Don't be late. They offer no apologies for being late.

In the end, I enjoyed our hotel stay here. Would go back again shortly.
