“Surprisingly Nice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2010

This property surprised me. Check in was easy, friendly staff on every shift, daylight continental breakfast was adequate, fresh and well stocked. They are in the process of rennovating the hotel, our rooms had been nicely redone. Rooms were quiet for sleeping and room was well equipped (micro, coffee, towels, soaps and shampoos). Nice flat screen tv mounted on wall (part of rennovation). Pool was clean. Free shuttle service to and from airport - best part of trip! Only a short walk to harbor and activities. Restaurants within walking distance. Hotel staff offered great restaurant recommendations. Very nice property.

Well located near Harbor attractions. Fairly easy walk to downtown, Gaslamp and Petco Park....or you can walk a few block and catch the Trolley near Little Italy. Very safe area to walk. Room was good, with small, clean, recently renovated bathroom. Convienent to have fridge and microwave in the room. Unlike most hotels fridge's, this one actually got cold. Chairs in the room were stained and the AC wasn't the greatest are the negatives. Could see workman renovating other rooms. Spartan breakfat with just the basics. Friendly staff let me leave my car on the lot the afternoon after checkout, until I returned from Padres game.
Couple blocks down the street try Las Panchitos Mexican Restauarnt. No frills place for eat-in or carry-out. They serve beer and excellent fish tacos.

The Days Inn was a reasonable place to stay -- had 3 floors with an outside elevator (a drawback), you could see that the motel was old. Nice looking outdoor pool. Ice and soda machine located at the back of the elevator, in the parking lot. There had been updates done to the building. Our room was comfortable and clean. We stayed here because it was close to the cruise dock, our ship was arriving for our cruise to begin our cruise the next day. The Days Inn had a complimentary shuttle to the cruise ship terminal which made things very easy. Complimentary breakfast -- normal breads, cereal, etc. No fuss, no muss, reasonable priced and centrally located. Many restaurants within walking distance.

We needed one night in San Diego to finish our vacation and needed a place that was close to the airport since we had an early morning flight. Days Inn appeared to fit the bill. What we didn't realize is that it backs up to the rail service and, while the electric trains aren't too noisy except for the clanging of the bells to lower the gates, the trains are very noisy with their horns.

The check-in went well, except you just didn't get the feeling that you were appreciated. The elevator was slow and the door always seemed reluctant to open. The ice was behind locked doors. There was a cold breakfast offered the next morning, but we didn't sample it. Check-out was like check-in - we weren't feeling any of the love.

I pre-paid the reservation, otherwise I would have probably gone elsewhere. I asked for a queen bed; we got two doubles.

The harbor view is there and it's very close to the Maritime Museum. This would be a bonus if you were going to spend the day at the Museum - you wouldn't have to constantly feed the meters at the waterfront.

We have stayed here five times in the last 18 months and have enjoyed every visit. The front desk staff are the friendliest and most helpful that we have encountered at any hotel. We will continue to stay here when we visit San Diego.

They are undergoing renovation of the property and we stayed in renovated rooms this visit. The beds and pillows are very comfortable and nice. The towels could use a bit of upgrading though. The breakfast is very basic but there is nothing wrong with cereal and milk.

There is some noise from the train tracks behind the hotel but not too bothersome. The satellite TV feed does not come in very good for a few channels.

I recently stayed at this hotel and found it to be a very comfortable well located hotel. The breakfast in the morning left a little to be desired but other than that the service was great and the room was very nice. Not to be mistaken for the Hyatt or Crowne Plaza downtown but also about a 1/3 of the rate. Also the free shuttle to and from the airport was a very nice touch. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting reasonable accommodations on the bay in San Diego close to downtown.

A last minute decision to visit San Diego after being bumped off flights home to Australia after staying 3 days in L.A. Caught the Greyhound bus from downtown L.A. and arrived at the bus terminal in early afternoon with no hotel booked. Rang Expedia.com as we could book online due visa card not US issue. Only available hotel close to to everything and at a good price (US$120) over weekend was Days Inn Harborview. We booked and caught a cab, no question it was close to everything from trolley tram stop to Little Italy for dinning and the harbor for some sightseeing. On arrival things looked ok till we went to our room. This manager said the room was one of their new rooms, it wasn't new it just had a new tv and appliances, therew as no mention that renovations were going on and the car-park outside room was the storage & workprep area. Well we thought that it would be okay as we planned to be out all day anyway. Just after putting our bags down in the room, my 12yo son(smaller than average size) used the toilet and it blocked up. Could not unblock it and went to reception to inform them. They said that it couldn't be fixed till the morning. I asked the managers wife who had now taken over that we had just traveled from L.A. and were not happy how things were turning out I was ready to leave. She gave me a key to another room this time on the 3rd(top floor) she said it had just been refurbished and to her credit it was brand new, never used since new paint & carpets, new bathroom, the shower curtain hadn't been put up yet. that's how I know we were first to use. They had the shower curtain up within the hour. The room turned out to be better than average, the smell of paint was very faint and a couple of hours with the door open fixed that problem. Everything worked great from the fridge to the hairdryer. Problem with the brand new in room safe, it was installed in a spot that didn't allow the door to open more than 5 inches. This would of been ok for us as we only needed to travel documents in except the opening was against the side wall so in reality you couldn't put anything in it. Complimentary b/f was good, not much variety but plenty of what there was. It all worked out ok in the end and if all of the refurbished rooms when complete are anything like ours then you will find it worth the money. As far as the noise from trains go I didn't notice but I live near an international airport so I used to noise.
