“Great deal for families”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

My family of five stayed here in June for 6 nights and it is a great location. It's close to the zoo, seaworld, and only a little drive to the wild animal park and legoland. The kids suite is great as you can let your kids relax in their own room after a long day of going to themeparks. The breakfast selection is nice (fresh bread and muffins for toast, pastries, waffle maker, yogurt, eggs, sausage, cereal and oatmeal.) However, the only downside is how busy the breakfast room gets. We got there right when it opened everyday 6:30am in order to get a table to sit at. The one day we slept in an extra hour was total mayhem and we ended up leaving and getting breakfast elsewhere. However, it's a nice safe hotel and I even had to use the washer/dryer and that worked out great. We would definately stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at our hotel. I am glad that you were able to take advantage of our close proximity to most major attractions in San Diego. The kids suite is one of the most popular rooms we have for families, the kids always love the bunk beds. I hope to see your family again soon!!. Juan Alarid General Manager

Three night stay 6/24 -6/27/12 - Room very nice 443. AAA rate was 109 plus tax equalling 120 night. Heard they remodeled, but don't know if just certain rooms, but you could tell the furniture was new in 443. Booked two queen beds, not knowing the room also came with a couch with a pull out bed. Had a nice desk and chair for those needing internet access, but didn't use. Wall separating vanity and bathroom away from sleeping area was nice, kinda getting ready more privately, but thought the lighting in vanity area and bathroom were extremely dim, very difficult to see if putting on makeup. Bathroom could have used a small wire table or shelf to put stuff on when showering. Don't like using the toilet to put my clean clothes on and/or amenties I might bring in during showering. Towel bar was too far away to reach towels when getting out of shower. Vanity area counter extremely small even for two people, so six people wouldn't work unless you put everything away after using. It is just a single sink with little sides for counter top usage. Water pressure in shower great. Entry to room had a huge closet, and had good lighting if you actually want to see to put make up on. Entry way was very large, but again missing some kind of small table to put duffle bags or luggage on. Only had one fold out luggage table stored in closet, along with iron board, iron. I felt for the size of the room and entry way, again a small table or stand of some sort might be nice to put even duffle bags on. Afterall, this is a room that can sleep 6 people. Mini fridge kept our stuff cold. Coffee/tea/sugars, and plenty of cups all provided.

I don't know what people are talking about the maid coming in too early. Use the Do Not Disturb sign. We had no problems. Maid left plenty of all size towels and washcloths, which was nice, not having to call for additional like some hotels.

Flat screen TV nice, but not something I look for in a hotel.

Room was off freeway, extremely noisy, but the view of th grassy side with homes built on it was nice. The fan on AC window unit drowned out noise if you choose to run it, and I definitely would want that same view again, unless you can't handle the freeway noise. Parking lot was extremely tight, back to back and side to side in the uncovered area, but undercover parking garage, only one floor, spaces looked larger. We chose not to pay the $9 a day parking, because I could not see paying $27 to be wedged in between cars, so parked on the street. Hotel advised either side of street was allowed, and we always found a space, even coming in around 11 p.m.

Only two elevators and very small. There will be wait times to catch the elevator at any given hour. There are no stairs to take, only for emergency. One of the elevators is off parking garage and one interior near front desk. Not enough to be sufficient for the amount of people the hotel houses.

Breakfast was FREE, but a zoo to say the least. Hotel gives times for less busy to busy, but we found this to be a crap shoot. It could be very busy early and going late was the same. Just be prepared, as sometimes there was no seating after you got your food. Many people took food to their rooms to eat. If you want to avoid the zoo, and only need coffee and muffin, hotel lobby has just that and you will not wait in any lines. Breakfast okay, but same everyday, and obviously very highly processed foods. Waffle line to make your own was way too long to wait, unless you get lucky and catch it at a good time. Things need to be spread out more, two sided, because even the coffee line was long, only one area to get coffee, and it was in the same line as the eggs, sausage, cereal. There was a separate line for muffins, bagels, toast, but if you needed the toaster, everyone congregated to that end and bumped into each other.

My biggest complaint was definitely breakfast. I think they should try to expand their breakfast room and have two areas for each category, two sided, to eliminate the one long line. I don't want to stand in the egg/sausage/cereal line just to get my coffee. It seems like the center island for muffins and bagels worked the best out of all their food lines, so people could circle it.

But all in all, we would go back to this hotel. Very easy access to freeway to Sea World, Mission beach, Old Town, and Seaport Village, and Applebees for those who like it. Staff was extremely nice from check in to check out, to asking for directions. Hotel lobby was decorated nice and had couches for sitting if needed. Didn't use the pool.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a candid account of your recent stay at the hotel. I am glad that you were able to enjoy your time in San Diego. All of our rooms were remodeled a couple of years ago, so the furniture is almost brand new. Our "Hot Buffet Breakfast" is extremely popular with most of our guests so it will get a bit busy in the breakfast room. We have recently added an Express Breakfast Station in the lobby for the "on the go guest". We hope to see you back again soon. Juan Alarid General Manager

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

We've just stayed 3 nights at this hotel. We have to say it was a bit of deception at first when we arrived as we usually stay in upscale hotels but as the time went by that sentiment started to fade away and we felt comfortable in it. It's got everything we needed and the staff was very helpful and friendly but they have to admit that their photos have been photoshoped to make it nicer and rooms bigger. The only thing we couldn't put upwith was the breakfast. Everything in there is very artificial, even the scrambled eggs didn't look like a real scrambled eggs. I bet it was made using some kind of instantaneous flower. Besides, breakfast area was very crowded in the mornings so we decided to have breakfast in town at some places we found here at tripadvisor. The location is not so good as claimed. There's nothing where it is, right on the border of hwy, and you will need a car to get to anywhere. Having said that, if you get it for a nice price (not like us $189/night) then I say it's a good value, the rooms are clean, free wifi, coin laundry. Another thing, it seems to attract a lot of families with kids. The swimming pool was always full of kids when we were there. The parking is also charged ($8.95/night). Folks, don't trust the positive reviews, when something is pictured as perfect without any flaw, be suspicious.

Room Tip: Don't trust positive reviews that don't report any issue.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay at our hotel. I am sorry that the size of the room was not up to your expectations, our spacious rooms and suites can accomodate up to six adults. The breakfast room is one of the most popular aspects of the hotel with all of the new items that have been added for the guests' enjoyment. At times it can be a bit crowded so we advise guests' to show up as early as possible. We hope that in the future you would be willing to give the hotel another opportunity and really let us show you, what an exceptional experience you can have at The Comfort Inn and Suites Zoo SeaWorld Area. Took a chance with a "nameless" hotel on Hotwire and stayed here for two days. Glad we did! The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The location can't be beat. We were just 5-15 minutes away from anything we wanted to do it seemed like. The staff was friendly and they sell discount tickets to the Zoo and Sea World. (Though I recommend going online for a $20 Sea World discount!) The FREE breakfast isn't gourmet, but has hot (toast, bagels, eggs, sausage, waffles) and cold (yogurt, hard boiled eggs, cereals, fruit) items and plenty of choices. We were very satisfied.

The hotel is much nicer than your normal Comfort Inn. The furnishings were a little worn, but the room is as clean as I have ever seen in 20+ years of travel.

But what makes this an outstanding hotel is the Staff! From the Front Desk to the Shuttle Staff to the Breakfast Attendants, all were wonderful, helpful and just what you should be able to experience at every hotel. On the Desk, all the staff was outstanding, Christian and Bobby were especially helpful. The Shuttle Drivers Steve and Dylan were extremely friendly and helpful. The staff is happy, efficient and first class. Whatever they are doing here, they are clearly doing it right!

Room Tip: Go for breakfast early, by 7:30. The breakfast is great, but it gets really busy later in the morni...

Very nice clean hotel - room was very clean. Price was very fair. Thought the parking fee was outrages for this type of hotel - then it was not even secured parking. Hotel is very busy and trying to get breakfast was difficult due to the large number of guest. Overall staff was very helpful and friendly.
We were driving so the location was great for getting to all the Parks and sites.
