“Nice location- Poor quality rooms and service”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2005

Catamaran is located by the bay, and within walking distance to Ocean. However, the rooms need major renovation. Do not expect the kind of service you normally get from major brand hotels.

Our family stayed at the Catamaran Resort for one nite over the Christmas 2004 holiday. We had a nice stay. Our room was quiet, large and clean with a balcony overlooking the gardens (we were in the tower). The kitchen appliances were a little old, but functional- our kids especially liked the full-sized refrig to store their sodas and snacks- not the 'mini bar' that you see in hotels so often. As other reviewers have mentioned, the grounds are beautiful and our kids loved the tropical birds. We had a great breakfast on the beach at the hotel's restaurant. We ordered off the regular menu since we thought the Sunday buffet was very pricey at $32.95. Great, friendly service. The kids menu was an especially good value. A great place to have a hot cup of coffee in the winter. We would stay again.

We just spent a week at the Catamaran ( myself, my husband, two boys ages 10 and 8 and my mother). We had two rooms next to one another, but not adjoining. The staff was very accomodating and the rooms were nice. The grounds were gorgeous and my sons loved watching the ducks from the patio each morning. The hot tub and pool were nice and since the weather wasn't so great while we were there, they were never crowded. We walked to breakfast at the Eggery across the street and were either a short walk or a short drive to everywhere we wanted to eat like Joes Crab Shack . We loved being near the beach and the bay. The Sunday brunch was EXCELLENT and the restaurant, even the bar, had a good kids menu. We payed $129 a night and we were in buiding 7 which was very quiet. It was not the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in, but for the price and the location and with the kids it was wonderful and I would absolutely stay again.

This resort is in a great location - right on Mission Bay on one side and only one block from the beach on the other. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel offers a lot of activities - great for families. We stayed the weekend before Christmas and got a $99 rate that included an upgrade to a tower "studio" with kitchenette. We were on the 6th floor and had a nice view of the beach (the bay side is probably quieter). The room was very dated and the patio door was broken and wouldn't close properly - so we had to endure the noise of Friday and Saturday night partygoers on Mission beach. Not too bad though. The Kitchenette had an old stove and oven and an old refrigerator. Apart from a coffee maker and very basic utensils, there was nothing else. No microwave. We had to be real creative to cook meals-but did manage a couple. For $99 this was an OK deal - but don't expect much from the rooms - they really need some upgrading.

I though this resort was very classy and I can't wait to visit the resort again. My stay was very comfortable. One particular reason I have for enjoying my stay there would be because of the great hotel staff. I especially thought the handsome, and of course gorgeous gentlemen behind the concierge desk was very helpful. His name was Joshua. Well that is my review and I hope to visit again most likely within 6 months.
Love,

Pamela Pretika Shankar

Ok..Where do I begin. After careful research and after reading 100's of reviews on Trip Advisor..i finally picked Catamaran Resort in San Diego. I wanted to plan a romantic vacation for my boyfriend and I. Both of us wanted to be on the beach and this resort was absolutely everything we could ask for. As soon as we walked in. we saw a beautiful waterfall inside the lobby. we arrived early and were given a room with a beautiful garden view within 5 minutes. The room was perfectly clean. no mildew or smell. everything seemed new. Lots of towels. The maid cleaned our room every morning. The location is unbelieavble. exotik trees, birds and ducks, fish everywhere. my boyfriend and I felt we were in paradise compared to the dirt we are used to in NYC. The beach (private) was 2 seconds away from our door and quiet. The water sports are tons of fun.. There is a million things to do within the area. I would recommend this resort to anyone. Its not a cheap place so dont expect to get anything for free. But i do not regret the $240 i paid per night. It was totally worth it. You can drive to La Jolla which is 10 mins away. Downtown city San Diego is 10 mins away. the Wild ANimal Park was amazing. All in all. we have absolutely no complaints and would most definately return to the Catamaran. If you have any questions, please email me. Id love to help.

We spent the weekend on a company function and as far a group facilites go, the accomodations are fantastic. The banquet room was beautifully decorated, and the food exquisite. The bartenders were a bit rude and did not seem to enjoy their job though....

We got a room with a king sized bed. This is 'just' a hotel room and not really worth the money spent on it. There was no fridge, or microwave and no fan in the bathroom. The water in the shower was just warm enough, but if you like a hot shower, forget it. The room was very clean but the air conditioner leaked all over the carpeted floor inside the door. Water splashed all over the patio door and into the room from the air conditioner on the floor above also. The whole weekend saw the hotel employees riding up and down the elevator with the wet vac, apparently vacuuming up water in many rooms from the same problem.

The view was not too great if you got the rooms looking over the parking garage. I would highly recommend asking for a 'bay view' if you want to wake up to something other than employees arriving for work...

In spite of the small problems, the hotel is beautiful and the location is fantastic! Although an older hotel, it is still maintained well. The grounds are impeccable and the exotic birds are an added plus.

We would definitely go back in the future for more company functions. There is so much to see and do, all within a few miles for the entire family. One weekend simply isn't enough time....
