“Loved it!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013

We only went to San Diego because our travel agent suggested it as part of our california road trip and we are so glad he did. The catamaran resort is great, from the moment you walk in with the waterfall in the lobby you feel you are somewhere special to relax in. The rooms were a bit dated but nice enough and we had a lovely view overlooking the pool. The local version of hells angels turned up while we were there but they did not ruin anything in fact they were really friendly. The bar area has tables outside which lead down to a wonderful view of the bay, idyllic, there are even little fires to keep you warm if it is chilly in the evening so cozy. The location is great with the bay outside the hotel and across the road in the other direction is the beach. Fab would love to return.

We like the location of the Catamaran in Pacific Beach. It is a good location, though pricey for the rooms themselves. We had a 2nd story suite...walk up stairs, we had lots of luggage, the poor bell man, I felt sorry for him climbing stairs.

We had a room with 2 beds, comfortable mattresses, plus a separate living room with a wet bar, small coffee maker, and No Microwave. The bedroom had a window and tv. The living room also had a tv and a nice balcony, with seating, but no small table. We had 3 tables in the living room, coffee, end, and large round with 4 chairs. We had 3 people, adults, and stayed 8 nights, we needed the 2 tv's as my husband watches basketball. The hotel was busy while we were there, with weddings and other events. It seems like a very popular place. They had a nice gift shop. Didn't use the spa this trip, but frequented the outdoor pool and hot tub. Housekeeping did a good job. Plenty of towels, hot water, and good water pressure. No complaints, though I can see why people want the rooms upgraded.

The grounds are very pretty, lots of scenic beauty. The birds were good. They weren't too noisy or anything like that early or late. The resturant always seemed busy, we ordered room service once, sandwich for hubby, which he said was OK. He had the seafood pot pie in the resturant which he really liked. I had the duck with some sort of celery root and figs...it was Very Good. I also tried a soup, crab if I remember correctly...didn't like...cold, and no seafood to speak of. I thought the resturant did a good job overall, as the place was always busy, I'm always afraid you won't get waited on, or will wait forever, but that was not the case.

Love the location and views, we rented a car, no problem with the parking garage, or the in and outs. There is quite a bit going on in this area and enjoyed it. Recommend the Mission, World Famous, the Italian gelato place, The Better Buzz. Ralphs, and CVS are close. Ate at Nick's twice, we really like that place.

Highly recommend a vist to Torry Pines, Del Mar, Solana Beach, La Jolla areas. BEAUTIFUL.
If you are a dog lover, there is a wonderful pet store next to Zel's.

Room Tip: like to have a room facing the water.

Rooms and Grounds were fantastic. All that was expected and more. Staff were friendly and helpful. Felt very safe and secure.

Restaurant food was wonderful.
Would visit again.
Did not have the breakfast, had a snack lunch and wonderful dinner.
Beach was available as well as pool. Easy walk to the Pacific, across the street.
Wedding was held on the beach, and receptions and coctails on the grounds, Dinner was served in upstairs dining hall. Paddle Boat cruse of the bay was provided after dinner and dancing.
What more can I say!

Fabulous staff, gorgeous restaurant and lovely food. Great swimming pool and spa and great poolside staff. will def stay again. within walking distance of supermarket. Only had issues with our room but that could be partly to do with the travel agent who organised it. also, the WIFI was not very good and you had to sit in the bathroom to get good coverage...not good when having to check work emails

Room Tip: make sure you stipulate that you want a seperate room from your children and that your room must onl...

The only positive thing about this place is the location. The bay is beautiful and the beach / grassed area gorgeous. The receptionist was curt, and only just polite, which was ok. The room however was awful. We were greeted with a musty smell when you opened the door, the furniture was old and dirty, the door was hanging off the hinge. The worst thing was the noise, the noise of the air conditioner, the noise of the bathroom fan and the noise of the fridge. We had bed and breakfast and were given vouchers, this was very confusing as every day the value of the vouchers seemed to change, somedays we had to pay for coffee and somedays we didn't. The restaurants were pretty awful, there was one lovely lady who greeted you for breakfast but the rest were only just courteous. We paid nearly 300 a night and for this money you can get a much better hotel. I also think that the bed had bed bugs as we were all itching. My advice is spend your money elsewhere.

The Catamaran Resort totally exceeded our expectations. The view from our Bay View deluxe room was amazing. To see Mission Bay, Pacific Ocean & far reaching views to Downtown San Diego was a true bonus.
The food in the Bar restaurant was spectacular, we would recommend the swordfish sandwich!!
We have visited San Diego on at least 12 occasions and to not the need the car for the duration of our stay ( 5 nights) was a treat.
The rooms were fresh, tidy and well maintained and at a very good price. If you want a holiday where you can sail, cycle, walk, swim & surf all within a 1 minute wall this is the place to be. A great destination for families with teenagers too, you would feel totally safe allowing them some freedom. A surprisingly quiet location too.

Room Tip: Bay View deluxe gave spectacular views. We would definitely book this type of room again.

Arrived after midnight, so used hotwire for a low cost on this 4 star hotel. The night clerk was very efficient in checking me in and even escorted me to my room, nice touch! As others have noted, the rooms are dated & in need of upgrades. I wasn't comfortable about security as my door opened into a side parking lot...they do have a tower building, so would request that in the future. The bed was a 3 plus out of five sith nice linens. The pillows were foam, would prefer feather. Everything was clean & in good order. This morning I took a walk around the property. It is beautiful! There are coy ponds with many ducks, several Macaws & beautiful gardens. The back of the resort has a beach on mission bay with a nice view. The ocean is 2 blocks away with many restaurantz & shopping.
