“Fab, fab, fabulous!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

We are from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. My only complaint would be that we booked online a Studio Room and then when we got there they have us a room in the tower. Being Canadian, I guess we were a bit of a push over and did not push back. We had booked the studio as it had a separate room or bed area. We have 2 young children and were hoping not to have to stare at each other in silence waiting for the kids to go to sleep. In the tower room it was a typical hotel room ( TV in front of beds). It didn't ruin our holiday therefore nothing to really bark up a tree about. Throughout our 6 day stay the staff were amazing, the interactions we had were with the valet parking, the front desk, the bellhop, the grounds people, the animal keepers (parrots, ducks and fish kept on grounds),the restaurant hostess, wait staff and cleaning staff. Every single interaction was positive. The grounds wherein impeccable shape. The location of the resort was great, the bay side beach was awesome as the staff set up chairs and tables for lounging. It was only one block from the ocean side. 20 mins to Sea World and the Zoo. 45 mins to Legoland. A ton of eateries near by as well.

Room Tip: If staying in the tower the 4th floor gave a view of the bay if you were staying on the bay side.

The response from our Academic Deans, Associate Deans, Administrators and Faculty was overwhelmingly positive in reference to the support and professionalism of the Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa. Our experience with the Catamaran Resort Hotel & Spa pre, during, and post-conference has been both helpful and professional.

Particularly the assistance of yourself, Phil Thomas, and several other personnel at the Catamaran including, but not limited to: Luis Nunez, Mary Coulter, Alyssa Wright, bartenders, hosts, hostesses, and staff were invaluable to the success of our 2013 Spring Meeting.

Bathrooms need upgrading
Shower spout is good height if you are 5'3" tall.
Bathroom door did not lock.
Closet doors were broken
Other than that it is nice
Nice views throught the hotel
Pool could have been a bit warmer
Outside grounds are really nice
Hotel seems very secure

First time spending an extended amount of days in San Diego with my family - we picked a winner with the Catamaran Resort! The tower room was awesome with a fantastic view of Mission Bay from our balcony. The staff - from checking in to housekeeping were super friendly and helpful to us. The pool and grounds are beautiful - my daughters loved the bird show! Location is great - we visited the Zoo, the Safari Park, went whale watching, visited Old Town and Coronado - nothing seemed like a very long drive. We were in walking distance of some good food and the beach. What more could you ask for? Will stay here again on our next visit!

I really just need a hotel for a quick overnight with my Mom. The room was great and quiet. I slept really well but I was really tired too!! But my mom slept well which speaks volumes!
The service at the restaurant was good and the food was really good for both our late dinner and our breakfast buffet. Great items to choose from. The grounds are incredible. Large 'natural' pools with Koi fish and really cool looking ducks/other birds, parrots randomly around and a water fall in the lobby. The location is just so great. You literally could take 10 giant steps and be on the beach. I don't know the prices for the lounge chairs but it would probably be worth it. A little Snack Shack for a cold drink/munchies so you don't have to venture too far. Looked like they have big kid toys to rent too if you felt so inclined. The work out room is small but there wasn't anyone there. I had a spa treatment on a previous trip and it was great. Love the spa gift shop too! You really can't go wrong with this hotel. It is totally worth the price if you can enjoy where you are (bummed we had to leave so quickly).

This was our firsttrip to San Diego. I spent hours reading reviews and checking prices before chosing this resort. I think this was probably the best travel decision I've ever made, partially pure luck. We LOVED this resort. The location was perfect - we toured all around San Diego and drove by many of the other resorts I was considering and hands down, this was the best choice. The ground are beautiful. The lobby is breathtaking. The location is awesome. Beautifully manicured lawns, gorgeous gardens, a quiet beach on one side, the Pacific right across the street, and a boardwalk on each side. When we arrived, the front desk gave me the choice of 3 rooms - garden view, pool view, or bay view. I ended up picking pool view because I knew our 6 year old would be spending a lot of time there. The bay view probably would have been prettier, but this location was great for us since it was very close to self-parking (we didn't want to pay an extra $5/day for valet), and close to the pool. I just loved that they gave us a choice! The grounds have ducks that wander around - my daughter LOVED that, and was thrilled when one hopped into the pool next to her once! They have about 5 macaws on property that are fun to see and talk to (they talk back). The room itself was smallish, and not super fancy or up-to-date, but it was clean and very comfortable and only slightly outdated. The mini-fridge in the room was great. We stayed on ground level and the place was mostly quiet at night (not always the case on ground-level units). The pool area was clean and well maintained, always stocked with fresh towels. Lots of kids and families staying here. Overall, a fantastic experience - we couldn't have picked a better place. We rented bikes from the shop at the hotel (including a trailer for the 1 year old and tag-along for the 6 year old) and rode around the peninsula - super fun.

Room Tip: We chose pool side, but I honestly don't think you can go wrong with any of them!

This became one of my favorite places to go the moment I arrived. We stayed in a garden suite and it was so nice waking up, walking out of the room and finding many different kinds of bird and plants - just extremely relaxing. The food was great. The spa was very nice and one of the best I've ever been to. From the hotel, we were able to go bike riding around the bay and along the beach. I can't wait to go back!!!
