“wonderful relaxing vacation spot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I recently stayed at the Catamaran Resort Hotel because we had a conference there. The grounds are unbelievable. I had a ground floor room and I loved sitting outside in the evening wathing the cute ducks walk the grounds. I was at a conference there for 3 days and the food was great. Everything they served was wonderful. I was very content to just hang out in the evenings this time but they have a bus stop across the street. In the past we have just taken the bus to old town.

The location for this hotel is nice! On the waterfront in Mission Bay area. However, the facility itself is dated and could use some remodelling. Also, myself and others travelling on business noticed the strong mold or musty smell in the rooms. Banquet facilities were pretty good. Service in the lounge was slow.

Everything just the way you dream, especially when you need to relax. From checking in to a no hassle breakfast (yum!) to an afternoon at the spa or just sitting at the side of the pool, everything as smooth as silk. I will certainly stay here again.

Please, while in San Diego treat yourself to something fantastic. Reserve some time at the Spa
at the Catamaran Resort Hotel. If you are looking for relaxation and an incredible spa experience, this is the place. The ambience is wonderful, the staff knowledgeable, friendly,
the manager, Christina, is great, and the wonderful group of men and women who make
sure you have a fabulous massasge or facial are the best. My personal favorites for facials
are Shannon and Caroline. The entire experience is a treat you will remember. Have a super
day at the spa.

Based on other reviews, I upgraded from 2nd floor garden view room to 9th floor tower - and it was well worth it. The view of bay and ocean was amazing and relaxing! Prime location one block from ocean, walk to restaurants; just a few miles to downtown, Sea World, Zoo, La Jolla - everything you could want. Bike and water fun rentals on site.

Also, the tower room also had a microwave & stove, while the garden view room I was in just had a coffee maker and mini fridge. Plus the tower room had a sofa, which the garden view room did not. The furnishing weren't anything special, but the bed was comfy and everything was clean. Some families had rooms overlooking pool, which would be handy if you have kids, so that's another option.

I had one issue with a mattress, and one stop to front desk and it was completely handled to my satisfaction. Front desk staff was very responsive and accommodating throughout the trip.

Also, I usually use a noise machine to sleep at hotels, but the fan in the room provided constant white noise, so no troubles there.

A great trip, and doubt I could've picked a better spot for this vacation!

Room Tip: higher in tower for great view

This is a great hotel and spa. The day i spent at the spa was deeply relaxing--and the people who work in the spa are warm and welcoming and add to the ambiance. There are wonderful exotic birds and the handlers give talks that are light and interesting but packed w/information. my husband and i have been to many such talks at zoos, etc. when we were raising our child, but i realize how little real information others have given. [did you know that well cared for parrots can live to 100 yrs old or more, for ex?]. The property is much more beautiful that the website shows. Our private balcony looked right onto mission bay where there is a lovely beach and you can rent a boat [which we did], bikes, scooters, etc. If you want surf, it's just across the street where you can watch the sun set into the ocean. the staff is friendly and helpful. the food at the restaurants great, and you can eat outside and get a free boat cruise most of the year. At night, fire pits are lit as well as torches and the seating is varied for groups of all sizes. You will go home renewed, but longing to return!

Room Tip: ask for a room on the second floor if you want more privacy; the first is better if you have kids wh...

I got a card from Fernando Zamora and so I wanted to write a review about how great the service and overall stay was. We checked in and Fernando came to bring the crib for the baby and he was very nice and even cleaned our windows. Valet were very nice. Perfect location. Next to world famous and walk brisk walk on bayside to bellmont park, the bike rentals on site were nice. Every convenience was there. No reason to stay anywhere else. I have stayed here at least 25-30 times since a child and now my baby has been 5 times already. Hopefully this will be the only San Diego hotel she knows
